sculptured for that ergonomic feel that becomes a part of the shooter when a stock fits well. When it comes to practi- cal cosmetics, a series of flow-through vents on the fore-end of the stock helps to cool the fluted stainless barrel while also cutting down on some weight. This too looks good! What is not visible is the barrel/blued receiver unit embedded into a skeletonized aluminum bedding block in the stock. This is critical because the way the barrel, action and stock are locked into a functional unit adds stability, which obviously contributed to the accuracy of these rifles. I have based this statement on observing groups shot by myself and others with these rifles, and all performed exceptionally well. Bushnell Scope pre-mounted: The

rifle I selected had mounted on it a Bush- nell Elite 6500 scope in 2.5-16x power. For the various hunting situations that included close- and long-range shots, that was an excellent selection of a scope. After hearing what Paul Arnhold, Bushnell’s public relations manager, had to say about scope designations, which can be confus- ing, I asked what has happened to the 3200 which I use on some varmint rifles

What is good about a knowledgeable shooter for a spotter is that such an individual recognizes problems that may creep up unexpectedly. Longtime friend Kevin Howard saw me miss and immediately told me why. He watched me as I shot and saw me pick up my head to view the target. Obviously this is not what you should do if you do not want to miss.

I own. Paul likely anticipated such ques- tions because he handed me a 15-page summary of Bushnell highlights of 2012 equipment. Paul then showed me within that presentation what I was looking for while explaining that there are nine con- figurations in the Elite 6500 line and 18 in the Elite line of their optics. These are fully multicoated lenses with Ultra Wide Band Coatings. They also are 100 percent shockproof, fogproof, waterproof and have the permanent RainGuard HD water resistant coatings. Because of personal experience with such coated optics when hunting during rain storms, I know that such coatings are helpful to hunters. Rain- Guard HD coating on scopes, spotting scopes and binoculars prevents external fogging of the lens when it is raining. Such

fogging results in the scope being difficult to see through, if at all. RainGuard HD does its job by causing moisture to bead up, allowing you to see the target and shoot. Paul added that in 2011 Bushnell combined the Elite 3200 and 4200 series to bring every scope up to 4200 quality standards. Also, the top riflescopes in their line, the Elite 4200 and Elite 6500, are both here to stay. In his presentation Paul also said their Legend Line fills a void ($200 to $300 retail) between their Elite and Trophy XLT lines so you can get quality at a lower price. Back home I used their Legend 3-9x

40mm on a Browning Buck Mark rifle in 22 LR, and the clarity was superb. This optical performance gave credence to what we saw on that hunt.
