available only with a maximum of 3x erectors. In other words, variable pow- ered scopes like 3-9x, 4-12x and 6-18x have been common for decades, but virtually no manufacturers were offer- ing optics in magnifications like 2-12x or maybe 3-18x – that is until recently. With only a few exceptions, the scopes

simply progressed in multiples of 3. But Leupold shattered that industrial impediment a short time back when they came out with their new Mark 8 tactical scopes, which possessed nearly an 8x erector for an amazing zoom po- tential of 1.1-8x. Before that, Leupold had never produced a scope having more than 4:1 zoom potential, but once they had the Mark 8 technology under their
corporate belt, the plant engineers were chomping at the bit to move further into this new uncharted optic territory. This eventually led to the development of the series of scopes that Leupold’s spokes- man and Senior Marketing Manager, Pat Mundy, calls the company’s “flagship product” – the Leupold VX-6 series. In this case the “6” in the name stands for a full 6:1 zoom. The first of the VX-6 scopes were brought to market late in 2011 and consisted of two basic models: a 1-6x24mm CDS® (Custom Dial Sys- tem®) and a 2-12x42mm CDS®. The fa- vorable price and the high performance of these scopes captured the attention of many shooters, which resulted in a soaring demand and for a time an in- ability of Leupold to even keep pace with their customer's desires. But things have changed now in a couple of differ- ent ways. First, Leupold has now geared up to meet those customer demands and by doing so, they are now staying well ahead of the orders. And second, Leupold has now expanded their VX-6 series scopes to include some additional choices that fit very nicely within the needs of varmint hunters. THE NEW VX-6 ADDITIONS Even though the first of the VX-6
