at all regarding the trigger’s function. What I was thinking was that if the rifle had a very high quality target trigger in- stalled, what would it be capable of then in terms of accurate group shooting? Down range, one event unfolded
that gave clear evidence to the fact that the Mossberg MMR-T can shoot ... and shoot well. I was shooting the third day on a flat, wide open section of range at prairie dogs that were stretched out 400 through 800 yards down range. Now I know full well it is easy to stretch the range a good deal with the aid of a computer generated manuscript. In this case, however, my second was Cody, one of the guides, and he was set up behind a Swarovski high magnification spotting scope set at about 80 power. Cody was, in effect, spotting for
another shooter at the time and had pulled over and located a standing dog at 735 yards ranged with a Swarovski. I have been mentioning the brand of equipment because this grade of glass won’t ever let you down, and ranging accuracy is always spot on. While the ranging units were the standard of the day built by Swarovski, there were also other units in camp that for now cannot be divulged except for the fact that they will blow your mind at some point down the road. The bottom line was simple – we knew the exact range of that dog.
Touching off a 35-grain NTX Hor- nady bullet from the Mossberg MMR resulted in a cloud of dry dust billowing up around my target dog, followed by the subject rolling to the right off the mound. I must say that is all I could see

at 16 power from my position against the haze of the midday heat and added mirage. The exact impact of the bullet was cloaked in dust, and I did not see the actual impact myself. However, Cody could see everything and indi- cated the dog was kicking with feet toward the sky. In my book that’s a kill. Over the course of several more hours I did watch a number of dogs in the 350- to 450-yard range take hits from the new MMR AR-15 class rifle. In my opinion, the major reason accuracy was so exact was, first, because the Mossberg will shoot straight, and, second, good optics ruled in the field. Swarovski is no joke in the optics business and it showed in spades by advancing quality
controlled rounds put down range and often on target. Sure, there was an ele- ment of both luck and the ability to use “walking in the bullet” style of shooting, but it takes optics like those employed to even get close when targets are half a mile away, and the air is as hot as a blast furnace. Add the fact that a small 223 caliber 35-grain bullet is doing the work, and reaching its target down range at about 950 - 975 f.p.s., or that of a 22 Long Rifle 40-grain bullet striking a target at 100 yards, and you have noth- ing short of a small miracle taking place. The Swarovski 3.5-18x44 scope has the sniper style mil dot BR II/BRX reticle system and is calibrated to match many long-range rounds, such as the
