Extech Introduces Industrial Android App
Nashua, NH — Extech Instruments, has released its new industrial app, “EX845 METERLiNK for Android.”
display readings from the meter on an Android phone or tablet up to 10m (30 feet) away. The new industrial app displays
large, easy-to-read values for the fol- lowing functions: AC/DC voltage, AC/DC current, capacitance, resist- ance, frequency, diode test, and tem- perature (both from a Type-K ther- mistor probe and from the meter’s built-in non-contact, laser infrared thermometer). Function indicators highlight which measurement mode is selected on the meter. In addition, Data Hold and Min/Max functions are also remotely displayed. The ME- TERLiNK app also provides a log of recent readings for quick reference,
basic trending and more context. Contact: FLIR Commercial Sys-

BEI Kimco Intros Latching Voice Coil Actuator
Vista, CA — BEI Kimco Magnetics, a brand of Custom Sensors & Technolo- gies (CST), Inc., has introduced a Lin- ear Voice Coil Actuator with a patent- ed design that incorporates magnetic latches at each end of travel. The new design provides an excellent solution for critical applications where there is a specific “stop” position desired when the coil is de-energized.
Typical applications for the new
LAH24-67-000A VCA include propor- tional valve control, circuit breakers, and load movement in commercial, industrial and military industries.
tors in parallel, allowing the force to multiply without increasing the stroke. The new VCA incorporates all
the inherent advantages of voice coil technology including direct-drive, hys- teresis-free operation for highly accu- rate motion. Other advantages of this type of technology include high accel- eration, absence of commutation, and excellent resolution limited only by
the encoder used for feedback. Contact: BEI Kimco Magnetics,

Linear voice coil actuator. According to the company, one
of the appeals of a traditional voice coil actuator (VCA) has been that it doesn’t have to be in any particular position when the coil is de-ener- gized; it simply “floats”. However, in many applications, a certain position is required when de-energized. The new product provides this capability, thereby broadening the scope of ap- plications where moving magnet technology is suitable, while still pro- viding all the benefits intrinsic to voice coil technology. The LAH24-67-000A provides
0.44-in. (11.2mm) travel with 115- lbs. (52kg) peak force and 37-lbs. (17kg) continuous force in a compact footprint of just 2.4-in. (61mm) diam- eter. The surprisingly high force out- put given its diameter size is achieved with the devices’ split coil, also patented by BEI Kimco Magnet- ics. The split coil concept (in this case five coils) like using multiple actua-
