Global Growth & Quality Are Keys to Continued Success By Bryan Gass, Vice President, Techcon Systems, Garden Grove, CA

T

echcon Systems has been a leader in fluid dispensing in- dustry for more than 40 years

and today is a part of OK Interna- tional’s OEM Division. Focusing on fluid dispensing systems, Techcon’s components are used in medical, au- tomotive, telecommunications, aero- space, and industrial applications throughout the world, helping im- prove manufacturing processes and increase customer’s bottom lines. Techcon offers a wide array of fluid dispensing products and provides dispensing components ranging from disposable accessories to complete microprocessor-controlled dispensing systems, and precision valves. One of the major reasons Tech-

con has been successful over the years is its strong global distribution channel. Most of our regions have ex- cellent distribution partners and are covered very well, but there are some strategic areas we will look to add additional channel support to in 2012. Over the years, our wide appli- cation knowledge and our commit- ment to high service levels have helped us grow. Advances in consumer products

have forced manufacturers to find ways to improve their processes. In 2012, the Techcon sales team will

continue to train and improve the ap- plications knowledge of field person- nel to better help the customer with their application needs. We’ll look to do the training with different distrib- utors both on a formal and informal basis, formal in the classroom and in- formal while working with our chan- nel to help solve problems out in the field. As business continues to be- come more competitive, we need to uncover ways to assist the customer and work with them on finding new methods to develop a competitive edge against their competition.

Global Growth Global growth and presence will

help with this. Currently, we are pleased with the growth in all three regions: the Americas, Europe and Asia. All three regions grew in dou- ble digits during 2011. Asia contin- ues to see the highest growth of any region, with the China market lead- ing the way. China keeps providing us numerous opportunities as the market continues to expand and we expand with it. Techcon Systems continues to build on the success it has experienced in the region and strengthen its position and brand name in the marketplace. China will remain one of the

Family of precision dispense valves from Techcon.

With the help of the veteran distribu- tion channels we have in place in the US along with a seasoned Techcon sales team, we’ve had success in the region and we believe it will continue through 2012 as well.

Investing in People Over the last few years, Tech-

con has invested in people to help drive its strategy. We have spent a lot of time hiring qualified individu- als to help build a very strong team that can work with our channel and help support their requirements as their business demands increase. We have hired experienced people to help execute our strategy and accel- erate sales. I believe all organiza- tions start with people so we have put a high emphasis on bringing in the right individuals to fit our strate- gic direction. We first started the ex- pansion in the US where we noticed the region was not getting the sup- port that the top companies needed and demanded in today’s market. Mel Miller was the first person we added to the team and the energy and enthusiasm he brought was in- fectious causing us to look at adding more personnel in strategic areas. From there we applied a very

similar model or strategy in Europe and this has proven to be just as suc- cessful. Our strategy is similar in all the regions with slight modifications depending on the culture and mar- kets we service in the region. We now are applying the process in Asia and are confident our outcome will be just as successful.

Internal and Customer Sales At Techcon, we take quality very

seriously. Over the last several years, we have made sure that Techcon has the highest standard of quality in the industry. Internal quality plays a very important role with the products we send out to our customers. We are an ISO certified company and we have spent a lot of time improving our processes and procedures. Our plastic molding expert has

more than 30 years of experience and has helped improve the molding process along with enhancing the de- sign on the molding tools. Techcon

highest growth opportunities in the future for Techcon as we look to con- tinue to build the brand name and of- fer greater support to the region by adding additional personnel. In the US, we had a strong year in 2011 and this year is continuing that trend.

Systems’ policy is to deliver quality products to our customer in a timely manner. As an organization, we strive to meet the customer’s expec- tations while continually improving our quality system. Operationally, we are adding more staff and strengthening processes to support our growth targets. Without the in- ternal quality that we have in place today, Techcon Systems would not be enjoying the growth and success we have had over the last five years. Techcon Systems has put a lot of

time and effort into the delivery process of its product. In today’s mar- ket the demand fluctuation of the con- sumer puts greater pressures on the manufacturer to turn out product quickly. How fast you respond to your customer’s needs plays a big role in your success. When the customer needs product, we’re able to deliver the product in a timely manner.

Faster Delivery Times In the past, customers would be

able to accept a 3-4 week delivery time, but today we have to be able to deliver faster. We have lowered our lead times and have put processes in place to help with our response time back to the customer. To manufac- ture product quicker and faster while still maintaining the quality our cus- tomers have come to expect is key. Another important factor is response time to the customer when they need support or quick turnarounds; the last thing a customer wants to be in is a line down situation. So we have invested more in personnel and en- hanced our operations to better sup- port quicker response times. We expect continued global

growth over the next three years. The overall industry outlook shows contin- ued improvement throughout 2012 and we need to make sure we have the resources to support the development. Techcon feels it will outpace the gener- al market and will continue to invest back into the business through R&D, operational improvements, acquisi- tions, and our biggest investment will be in people. Continuing to expand our sales/customer service team and com- ing up with the right ratio of support is very important as we move into the next few years.

Strengthening our footprint in

Europe and Asia has been a focal point this year. We are strategically set for the Americas this year and our Techcon presence in Europe is the strongest it has ever been and should get stronger over time as we look to branch outside of our tradi- tional markets. China will be our key focus for expansion during 2012. Fi- nally, R&D and the introduction of new products will play a big factor in the success of Techcon in the years to come. Adding to our valve portfolio and enhancing our application

knowledge will be essential. Contact: Techcon Systems,
