Duncan Scott, Distribution Sales Manager at Plastribution, is charged with leading the training initiative: He comments that “our training courses are proving very popular indeed. We are consequently committing resources to extend and develop them further. More topics and more volume of training dates are being planned over the next eighteen months.”

Duncan believes that the popularity of these training courses is attributed to the high level of confidence customers have in Plastribution’s ability to provide effective technical support through a partnership approach to achieve business success.

Duncan also notes that “as with our mainstream business, we ensure that we work with the best suppliers: In my view Peterborough–based John Goff Associates are the best in the training business. We are delighted to be partnering with John’s company on the training front.”

As ever, however, the proof of the pudding is in the eating:

Nicky Bullock, UK Furniture & Accessories Procurement Category Leader at bathroom solution provider Ideal Standard International recently attended the “non-technical” course. Nicky says “I wanted to have a good grounding of the basics in plastic resins so I could apply my understanding to the procurement role I have within the organisation.”

She adds that “I found the course very informative and interesting and would not hesitate in recommending it to any novice or anyone coming into the industry not possessing any technical knowledge. It has certainly given me plenty to think about. The information gleaned from the course has helped me put together this year’s procurement strategy.”

Dan Jarvis, newly promoted Technical Manager at the company, will be assisting Duncan in scoping out future courses. Since 2002 Dan has been involved in internal and external training. His increasing involvement in day-to-day technical content will now help inform the “nitty gritty” of what to put before the company’s customers in the form of training.

“We may have our own views and prejudices,” he notes, “about what counts as training. The most important question, however, is what do our customers need to know – what do they need to learn and apply in their businesses?”

New course modules are expected in the new year. “Process Optimisation” and “Injection Moulding for Non- Technical Staff” are styled as standard courses and are provided “on- demand” by Plastribution depending on participant numbers.
