Netherlands-based specialist closure producer Plasticum has been acquired by private equity group Lindsay Goldberg Vogel. Plasticum, which is
headquartered at Tilburg, manufactures special dosing and dispensing closures for the European personal care, food and healthcare sector. The company, which also has facilities in Germany and the UK, employs around 300 people and generated sales last year of €61m. According to
Plasticum CEO Roel Zeevat, the new investment will
enable the company to move ahead with plans to expand beyond the European

market. “We want to drive international growth with our cost-effective and sustainable packaging solutions,” he said. “Plasticum is active in steady growing market niches and has good potential for further
international expansion with its current customer base,” said Dr Thomas Ludwig,
managing partner at Germany- based Lindsay Goldberg Vogel. “We are convinced that Plasticum has the ability to gain many new customers in their business lines.” Recent Plasticum innova- tions include the Clube multi-component production technology for production of fl exible IML tubes with integrated dispensing closures. In February Lindsay
Goldberg acquired Germany- based injection moulded packaging group Weener Plastik, which has operations in Germany, Brazil, Hungary, Ireland, Mexico, Russia, Spain and the US.

Guide targets “greenwashing”
The European Bioplastics trade association has pub- lished a new guide designed to help users of bio-based and biodegradable plastics ensure their marketing campaigns avoid misleading or confusing claims.
The association says the new 32-page Environmental
Communications Guide for Bioplastics is designed to tackle the issue of “green- washing”, which it describes as false or misleading communication of the environmental aspects of products or materials. The guidelines give clear and detailed guidance to
ensure all enviromental claims are “specifi c, accurate, relevant and truthful.” It includes advice on substantia- tion methods, international standards, methods of verifi ca- tion, and end-of-life claims. The guide can be down-

Schulman buys ECM Plastics
A. Schulman has bought US-based colour and additive masterbatch maker ECM Plastics for $36.5m as part of its ongoing strategy of shifting its business towards higher value products.
ECM Plastics is based at
Worcester in Massachus- setts and generates sales of around $40m from its custom colour and specialty additive masterbatch and niche engineered com- pounds activities. It employs 140 people and is particularly strong in the personal care and cosmet- ics markets. “We expect ECM to
provide strong synergies when combined with our current masterbatch and engineered plastics businesses, allowing us to strengthen our position for long-term profi table growth in the United States,” said Joseph M Gingo, Schulman chairman, president and CEO.
