Fakuma 2012 | show preview
This year’s largest injection moulding event in Europe – Fakuma 2012 – is almost here. We take a fi nal look at what the show will hold
Europe focuses on Fakuma
Fakuma 2012 is almost upon us. The event, which takes place at the new exhibition centre in Friedrichshafen in Germany from 16-20 October, will be the biggest meeting point for the injection moulding industry in Europe this year and is expected to draw an audience of some 45,000. If you have not already made plans to attend then you will need to act fast or risk missing out on the best opportunity this year to see some of the latest injection moulding processing innovations in action. We presented a detailed seven page preview in last month’s edition; we are following up this month with a look at some of the show news that arrived after our editorial deadline. French machinery maker Billion (Hall B3, Stand 3104) will focus its display on its latest developments in co-injection moulding, which it says can now be applied in production of thin wall, long fl ow length parts. It claims its Thin Layer Co-Injection technology over- comes the challenge usually experienced in thin wall parts of maintaining a regular fl ow front of skin resin and preventing burst-through of the core layer. The company attributes the performance of its Thin Layer system to its distribution nozzle. In co-injection

moulding, two inection units are used but during the fi nal fi lling phase it is necessary to inject only skin material, which also primes the feed system for the beginning of the next cycle. Billion says its nozzle system allows this priming volume to be kept to the minimum to allow the maximum volume of core resin to be used. The system will be demonstrated on a 150 tonne
all-electric co-injection machine from the Select line equipped with a Sepro robot. It will produce a 16.8 litre PP bucket measuring 336mm high by 260mm diameter with a 1.4mm wall containing 40% core material (an approximate core layer thickness of 0.7mm). While the demonstration will be an all-PP part, core materials
