Continuity Checker Made in U.S.A. Fills Market Void

ous need to say “Made in U.S.A.” on the product have combined to bring an impressive new technician’s helper to market. Called the “Check - Mark”, the new gadget has just been introduced by Circuit Technology Services — a Silicon Valley company whose main business is to provide a testing service for EMS providers and OEMs. The new 100 Megohm tester was completely designed by CTS President Brad Kurrell and is the industry’s only 100 Megohm continu- ity checker available today, and the only one completely fabricated in the United States. The CheckMark is a continuity

checker that will detect shorts up to 100MW. Typical digital multimeters only measure up to 30-40MW. This makes the CheckMark an excellent tool to detect any leakage type shorts in the printed circuit board.

Lost Technology Benefits from New Design

ogy is not a new idea; in fact, such instruments have been around for many years. But the company that had provided them went out of busi- ness, so it became impossible to pur- chase them any longer. Kurrell felt that there was enough of a need for them that he decided to take it upon himself to design and fabricate the CheckMark: a new 21st Century ver- sion of the device. Kurrell said, “Being in the elec-

trical test business myself I know how critical it is to have a good and effective tool for detecting leakage. I also knew that these tools were no longer available. So many of the peo- ple I work with as well as so many of our customers were asking us where to buy them that I decided to build and sell them myself.” Located in Santa Clara, Circuit

Technology Services is smack in the middle of Silicon Valley, making the company easily accessible to the many PCB fabricators in that high technology region. Brad feels that being an exten-

sion of his customers’ test depart- ments is what his company is all about. “We want our customers to be able to count on us completely when it comes to testing services. Although many of our customers — most of them in fact — have their own test departments, they count on us to fill in those needs they can’t cover them- selves. Over the years we have helped out customers in a number of ways from taking over their testing needs when their equipment goes down, to extending their capacity when they get an order so large that it overwhelms their test capacity, to helping them solve very challenging testing issues with their customers. There is no doubt in my mind that a great deal of our success has come from the philosophy that if we can

ankee ingenuity, California style, combined with a pressing void in the market and a seri-

make our customers successful, then we will be successful.”

Contract Test Services, QA Testing, and Problem Solving

In business since 2005, Circuit

Technology Services provides leading- edge PCB test solutions — using the latest technology as well as calling on their own significant the experience to provide customers with complete test services no matter what their needs. CTS specializes in helping customers with their electrical test needs in a number of ways from handling all of their testing to extending their capa- bilities when there are capacity issues. They also handle Quality As - surance testing issues and problem- solving including crisis problem-solv- ing as the need arises. Looking towards the future,

calibration, testing room audits and operator training. He says, “These programs are all being discussed at this time. It is our goal to provide our customers with everything they need to run a successful and efficient test department.”

Made in U.S.A. With so much U.S. manufactur-

ing being performed offshore, it was very important to Kurrell that the CheckMark be designed and manu- factured in the United States. In fact the CheckMark is completely pro- duced right there in Santa Clara. He says, “This was really important to me and the rest of my team here at CTS. We wanted to make sure that we made our contribution to the `Made in America’ movement. So we hooked up with some vendors here in the Valley and they are fabricating the CheckMark for us. I also like the idea of the control it gives us over the qual- ity and availability of the product.” He goes on to say, “Because we

knew that value is so important to all of us these days, we wanted to make sure that we kept the price of the CheckMark down to well below a hundred dollars and we’re very happy to be able to bring it to market

at such a comfortable purchase price. Contact: Circuit Technology
