World of Giving Volunteer Events, 2011
For Tauck’s Annual Employee Volunteer Day in October, more than 50 Tauck volunteers spent the day at Pegasus Therapeutic Riding in Brewster, New York. Pegasus provides equine-assisted activities and therapies to more than 200 children and adults with physical, cognitive and emotional disabilities.
For this event, Tauck teamed up with HomeFront – a volunteer community-based housing and property repair organization. The volunteers spent a day building and painting sets of blue-and-white Pegasus cavalettis for the arena and developing three activity stations on the sensory trail: the Herb Garden and “Scent Boxes” station, the Woodland Village station, and the Road Signs station. They also groomed a large portion of the sensory trail and laid down tons of fresh cedar mulch.
Raising spirits in New Orleans’ “Lower Nine”
Life in the Big Easy hasn’t been so easy for the residents of N’awlins since Hurricane Katrina lashed out at homes and businesses throughout the city in 2005, especially in the hard-hit Lower Ninth Ward that still suffers from the devastation today. Tauck has been providing critical financial support to them ever since, but what’s just as sorely needed in New Orleans are the rebuilding efforts of volunteers. Enter some 250 Tauck Directors, employees and suppliers who volunteered their time, manpower, know-how and enthusiasm to the “lower nine” during our annual training seminar this spring... and the power of Tauck teamwork moved mountains of debris, demolished dangerous condemned structures, mapped out missing homes, and planted gardens so that a community and life could flourish here once again.
