For more than 35 years, I have turned down opportunities to be involved in any kind of commercial venture... but there was something about what Tauck and I saw in each other. There was some recognition that took place that was so interesting that we could not help but say yes. We’re very excited about this relationship – and we’ve really thoroughly enjoyed the time we’ve spent with everybody at Tauck.

THE TAUCK JAZZ EVENT

Michelle Baran of the travel industry publication Travel Weekly attended The Tauck Jazz Event in New Orleans this past October – and wrote the following: “It would really be much more appropriate if I sang this dispatch. Pretty much from the minute I got off the plane in New Orleans, I’ve been singing, clapping and tapping my feet, thanks in large part to the musical medley of performances put together as part of The Tauck Jazz Event, a Ken Burns American Journeys experience... Getting to hear, and meet, Ken Burns was a highlight of the trip for most... One traveler told me it was like being back in college. I agree. I kind of feel like all 223 of us now have an honorary minor in jazz history.”

Our new “Ken Burns American Journeys” partnership with documentary filmmaker Ken Burns, launched in 2011, was so well put by Ken recently: “We’re designing tours with Tauck, working with them to figure out how to better enhance an experience for people by using our own behind-the-scenes expertise on a lot of different subjects, from national parks to the Civil War to jazz – to other areas that we hope to go into in the years to come. We are merging our historical storytelling, set over the American landscape, with their great storytelling – which is how you put together a tour, making that experience memorable and unforgettable. When we make a film, we don’t want to just settle for telling a story ‘okay.’ We want to be excellent. And what struck me about Tauck is that the same insistence on excellence, of being better and better still, was there in everything that Tauck does. And Dayton and I looked at each other and said, ‘these are kindred spirits.’”

The partnership includes new trips “Crafted by Tauck & Ken Burns,” “Ken Burns Events” – profiled on these pages are the first two that we held in 2011 – and “Stories by Ken Burns,” filmed narratives on select 2012 U.S. Tauck trips as well as select U.S. Tauck Bridges and Culturious trips.
