St. Maarten/St. Martin, situated 180 miles east of Puerto Rico, is the world’s smallest island to be shared by two sovereign governments. Dutch St. Maarten extends across 16 square miles and the French St. Martin covers the remainder. The two nations have had a friendly and peaceful coexistence for over 350 years.

Caribbean Challenge

Attend one of several vibrant Caribbean carnivals, such as the St. Maarten Carnival in April.

The island is endowed with bountiful beaches and crystalline waters and no shortage of cafes, restaurants and bars. The village of Grand Case also has over 50 restaurants and there are also lots of ‘lolos’ serving traditional local cuisine.

Each province has retained its individuality and national culture. St. Martin boasts numerous French eateries and establishments, while St. Maarten, with its busy cruise port is rich in Dutch colonial buildings. Visitors will find a wide variety of day and nighttime diversions, including land and sea excursions for all ages and activity levels. Those

For the true adventure seekers, try your hand at parasailing and skydiving, or tour the island by motorcycle, ATV or scooter. Strap yourself into the captain’s chair for some deep-sea fishing or descend the depths and explore historic wrecks and lost cannons from times past.

Other pursuits include golf, tennis, walking tours and, of course, beachcombing on any of the 37 beaches island-wide. Nighttime comes alive with St. Maarten’s many clubs, bars and casinos. Hidden gem
