Dominica (pronounced Dom-in-ee- ka) is known as the Nature Island of the Caribbean because of its lush, green mountainous landscapes and rainforests. Dominica is the perfect destination for those wanting an outdoor eco-friendly vacation and is a haven for hikers, with walking routes from 10 minutes to seven hours long, and some 2 ½ weeks to complete the Waitukubuli National Trail. Rivers, waterfalls, sulphur springs and even a Boiling Lake are some of the island’s defining attractions. Its unspoilt rainforests and unique diving spots are experiences naturalists will really appreciate. The island offers the most diverse range of flora and fauna in the whole of the Caribbean. More than 160 birds have been sighted on Dominica. It also has a large population of frogs, small tree lizards, bats, butterfly and two endemic parrot species.

Caribbean Challenge


Hike the Waitukubuli National Trail, approximately 115 miles long and divided into 14 discontinued segments. The trail encompasses different degrees of difficulty featuring natural and cultural heritage, as it passes through the UNESCO World Heritage Site, national parks and forest reserves, historical sites, old routes and the Carib (Kalinago) paths first cut by indigenous people.

Divers from across the globe visit Dominica each year for its fantastic diving, with dive spots that descend to depths of 1,000 feet. Dining on Dominica is a culinary delight including fresh fruit, exotic fresh fruit juices, vegetables and a whole variety of spices.


Hidden gem


The Boiling Lake is the second largest of its kind in the world, at the heart of the Morne Trois Pitons National Park. Reaching it is no easy feat, but the hike through the Valley of Desolation is worth the effort. Warning: Don’t try swimming! The lake really does boil.
