Caribbean Challenge

Drink the fresh spring water from Runaway Ghaut – a ravine running from the Centre Hills to the sea. Local legend dictates that people drinking this water will be drawn to return to Montserrat time and time again.

Did you know?

Montserrat welomes visitors with a green shamrock-shaped stamp in their passport.

Montserrat is a lush green and mountainous island that lies in the eastern Caribbean chain of Leeward Islands, 27 miles southwest of Antigua. Montserrat is referred to as the Emerald Isle of the Caribbean, due to the Irish descent of most of its early European settlers. Montserrat is unspoilt, offering peace and quiet, fascinating walks, diving, a rich and colourful birdlife and the awesome spectacle of its active volcano. Montserrat is a friendly island destination that welcomes all of its visitors with open arms. Soufrière Hills Volcano, active since 1995, is the island’s biggest attraction and Jack Boy Hill offers a unique opportunity to witness the live volcano safely. Montserrat’s capital Plymouth, was abandoned in 1997 and now resembles a modern day Pompeii. A new island capital is currently being built in Little Bay. Montserrat offers excellent scuba diving and snorkelling, amongst its fantastic underwater ecosystems and marine life. Visitors can gain their PADI scuba diving certificate through one of the island’s two dive centres. World class fishing, over 30 pristine dive sites, rare bird life and mouth watering local cuisine all add to the island’s timeless charm.
