Haiti is located 80 km east of Cuba and shares the island of Hispaniola with the Dominican Republic. It has more than 1,500 km of beautiful coastline due to its position on the western side of the island. Haiti is a mountainous island, which has a strong native Indian, African, European and American heritage. Its dazzling sandy beaches and countryside provide a fantastic destination for the visitor with a desire for some adventure.

Caribbean Challenge Visit the Citadelle Henri Christophe (World Heritage site), the largest fortress in the Caribbean.

Did you know?

Audubon, the bird artist who inspired all of the Audubon birding societies in the US, was Haitian.

From beautiful white sand and volcanic beaches to secluded, sandy coves that can only be reached by rowing boat, there’s an immense selection of picturesque areas ideal for swimming and snorkelling. For those with a keen eye for nature, the island’s rich diversity and its wonderfully unspoilt mountains, rainforest and landscapes hold much to be admired. Haiti boasts many national parks for challenging hikes that exhilarate and provide amazing views. So too does the Citadelle Henri Christophe at the peak of a 3,000ft mountain, close to Milot. The capital, Port-au-Prince, was until the recent earthquake, home to lively markets, squares, museums, art galleries and historic monuments. It is hoped that all these attractions will once again be a part of the capital’s allure.

Hidden gem

On the southern peninsula are Bassin Bleu, a triple waterfall with deep pools, and Pic de Macaya, a 7,700 foot mountain populated by rare orchids and birds.
