six B737-300 passenger aircraft to freighter configuration for Hainan Airlines. Under the terms of the contracts, signed in 2009, Pemco has already completed redelivery on three B737-300modifications, with the remaining three expected to enter service before the end of the second quarter.


PRIVATE COURIER AIRLINE Another very significant change to China’s air cargo scene came this January. The country nowhas a private courier with its own planes for the first time. CAAC granted a new air transport licence to a Shenzhen logistics company, SF Express –whichwill operate in the skies as Shunfeng Aviation and be headquartered in Shenzhen. SF Express has already taken delivery of two B757-200


freighters,with onemore in the pipeline. The company has said its aimis to operate a fleet of 30 planeswithin 10 years. Emboldened by this decision, another private express


operator has just started looking for potential investors to help it set up an express airline. The company has held discussionswith a subsidiary of Hainan Airlines thus far. Finally, a Chinese privately-owned express operator –


Shanghai-basedTTK Express – is looking for investments fromdomestic and overseas companies including Grand China Logistics,which is an integrated logistics company backed by the HNA Group. With themajor round of current consolidation seemingly


having run its course, the door is open once again for a rash of newairlines to take to the skies; China’s aviation cycle continues.
