It gets evenmore interestingwhen UK-based full-service
carrier Virgin Atlantic Airways delivers air freight on its daily widebody flights fromLondon via Hong Kong for onward distribution throughout Australasia on Virgin Blue or further afield to the US on V Australia.Once in America, cargo can connectwith Virgin Atlantic flights coming the otherway around theworld at Los Angeles and San Francisco. This enables the airline to effectively ring the worldwith its freight offering, notes Virgin Cargo’s head of commercial, Dan Parker. One thing is certain, the low-cost carriermodel is
Parker – low-cost helps Virgin Cargo ring theworld
workingwell – and it is causing big headaches to some of the full-service airlines. With fast turnaround times and the services of a top-class cargo handler at the departure and arrival airports being the keys to success, then the low- cost carriers can continue towork to reduce their passenger prices in the airwith the help of strong air freight revenues being generated in their virtually empty bellyhold space.
