the Sony Venice dropped off our top five list and cheaper cameras took their place. This year was entirely full of weirdness!” For the rest of 2021, Video Europe says there’ll

be “a trying few months and then a full blown explosion of work - I hope.” Let’s all hope.
Better the devil you know One consequence of COVID in the camera hire market seems to be that familiarity won the day. “We’ve seen a lot of crew, and self-shooters especially, sticking to cameras they know and are comfortable with as they’re filming in already intense environments,” says Pro Motion. Run VT reports a “huge surge in demand for our FS7 cameras. Also, we cannot believe the interest that the C300 MkI still holds for many broadcast production companies with smaller budgets.” Procam Take 2 says that “productions have faced many challenges to ensure that filming can go ahead safely, so we saw a lot of clients sticking with the tried and tested cameras that they already know” like the FS7 MkI and MkII. “Most of the filming last year happened with much smaller crews, and these cameras are still the go-to choice for a lot of self-shooters.” Filmstore notes that “typically productions have required low footprint, cost effective solutions when they are permitted to shoot, which has meant the FS7 has thrived.” At the high end, Films at 59 reports that there

Sony Venice has proved itself as the most versatile camera on the market - a rental house’s dream - given its multi format nature and the ability to meet every delivery requirement.” Shift 4 too says that “the very high budget
jobs, particularly Netflix jobs, hire the Venice. The image is great mixed with the lightweight RAW with the R7. Also, being full frame at 6K means it
COVID changed everything,” for the camera hire market in the last 12 months, says VMI, with lockdowns and COVID- safe shoots skewing the market. “Much less drama was shot and, as a result,
