POST BUILDS FOR THE FUTURE

In each case, there’s a firm belief that the industry
will bounce back strongly when the pandemic recedes. Many believe that investing in bricks and mortar post house offerings remains a sensible plan, arguing that clients who have been stuck at home for over a year are desperate to return to work with talent in edit suites. Others have gone the other way, creating remote post offers that allow flexibility and a better work/life balance. Most think, however, that the future of post will be hybrid, and they will have to cater to clients and staff wanting the best of both worlds.
HIT THE GROUND RUNNING On the face of it, investing in a business during the worst economic crisis since the Great Depression hardly makes sense. Leading facility Envy Post has done just that though, expanding its Soho empire with a new floor at its Foley Street facility, launching new fixed rig service Envy Capture, and investing in a remote technology platform, Envy Remote. Founder and CEO Dave Cadle doesn’t downplay
the severity of “this disastrous time, where a lot of people are struggling.” Explaining the expansion and new initiatives, Cadle says: “We wanted to come
out of this with a little bit of positivity. Everyone says that running a post company is all gloom and despondency. I’ve been dealing with gloom and despondency for 24 years as an md – you’ve got to get over it, you’ve got to make your own luck.” Cadle has a track record in this regard. Envy
opened three new sites during the recession that began in 2007, creating the foundations for the business today. Many facilities say they are investing because they
are optimistic about the long term outlook for the industry. That’s the case for digital dailies firm Mission Digital, which is expanding with a new facility at Shepperton Studios. Mission Digital had planned to expand before
