Recent fleet additions include more Kubota minis.

Stihl cut-off saws and mini power washer/bowsers from Seddons; lights, a scissor table and heaters from HSC; floor planers from SPE; a roller screed from MBW; and we upgraded our Syrinx hire software system to benefit from additional functionality.

Q. Any other recent fleet additions? A. We’ve bought more Kubota excavators including 3-tonne models, and we now have 23 machines in the fleet, with a range of dumpers and double drum rollers to complement them. We’ve also added larger 40kVA and 70kVA generators from Stephill, along with LED lighting towers from Morris Site Machinery.

“Have your team fully on board with you and lead by example”

We have also invested heavily in kit for the utility markets, having purchased scores of rammers, floor saws, compaction

plates, CAT4 and genny cable locators. Two new Ford Transit dropside vehicles are about to be delivered in March as we expand our transport fleet. It has been a record year for capital investment for us and we will spend £850,000 on new kit this year.

Q. What would your best piece of advice be to another senior hire executive? A. Have your team fully on board with you and lead by example, with clear lines of communication. And have a positive culture that encourages others to question things and to offer suggestions for improvement.

Q. What do you like best about this industry? A. The sheer variety. No two days are the same and every customer request is different. You don’t know what you’ll be faced with next, but you know you have to provide the solution. There’s no industry like hire.
