EXECUTIVE HIRE SHOW REVIEW

Steve and Danielle Hitchen are presented with One Stop Hire’s Award for

Outstanding Multi-Depot Hire Company by Carl Bartlett of sponsor, HAE.

Excellence in hire

Our 2020 Passionate Hirer Awards were presented at the start of the Executive Hire Party on 5 February.

This year, a shortlist of five hirers were nominated for our Awards from no fewer than 810 depots throughout the UK and Ireland. All had been visited personally by the Show National Visitor Campaign team in the months leading up to our industry’s major national exhibition.

The finalists were divided into two categories, for Outstanding Single Depot Hire Company and Outstanding Multi-Depot Hire Company. Following 'mystery shopper' visits and calls to their depots, each was scrutinised under a broad range of criteria including: presentation and functionality of premises; staff enthusiasm and competence; efficiency in handling orders and enquiries; quality of fleet products and delivery vehicles; and innovation in offering a wide range of equipment and exploring new technological opportunities.

One Stop Hire was our winner in the Outstanding Multi-Depot Hire Company category. Having celebrated its tenth anniversary in 2019, Chorley-based One Stop Hire now has 14 depots and more than 150 staff, many of whom have been with the business since its inception. A passion for hire is clear throughout all levels of the company, and the Judges were impressed by its caring, family-like atmosphere, rarely seen in a large operation.

David and Lisa Johnstone of (Y.E.S.) Your Equipment Solutions receive the Award for Outstanding Single Depot Hire Company from Luke Mace of sponsor, Mace Industries.

The standard of each company’s printed promotional materials and website was also assessed, along with their use of social media and support of local community initiatives

The winner in the Outstanding Single Depot Hire Company category was Y.E.S. (Your Equipment Solutions) of Falkirk. It has enjoyed previous Passionate Hirer Award recognition, being named as Most Impressive Newcomer in 2013, and was a runner-up when nominated in the Outstanding Single Depot Hire Company Category in 2016.

The business has continued to develop - indeed, we catch up on its latest developments in our article beginning on page 26. As well as home owners and general contractors, Y.E.S. successfully serves challenging niche markets such as petrochemicals facilities. The Awards Judges were impressed by how the company really gets involved in its local community, and shows an outstanding commitment to customer service.

The other company nominated in the Outstanding Single Depot Hire Company category was Hares Hire Services of Rainham.

The company continues to expand. It has added non- mechanical equipment hire and a dedicated training operation, and it shows commitment to high standards, recently achieving ISO 45001 accreditation. One Stop Hire maintains an active presence on its website and social media channels, and its strong team spirit is reflected by its sponsorship of several local sports teams, as we reported in our article on the business in our October 2019 issue.

Also nominated in the Outstanding Multi-Depot Hire Company category were Beaver Tool Hire (Chichester) and Hodgson Tool Hire based in Burscough.

surprised EHN Editor Alan Guthrie (right), by presenting him with a special Award on behalf of the industry. Alan is leaving the business after 20 years’ service, and the colourful framed trophy comprises various items of memorabilia relating to his involvement with the magazine over those two decades.
