The Calverts who are gradually dispersing their herd also stood second in both the cow and heifer classes with both going on to sell for £1800 to Wick Williams, Nantwich. The second prize cow was Calton Focus Claire, another Focus daughter this time giving 50kg. Calton Gerard Mary stood second in the heifer class, she calved last September and sold giving 35kg back in-calf to Cogent Twist. The Bradley family sold their third prize cow at £1700 to John Howard, Heslaker. Leading trade for bulls at 1750gns was Robert and Elaine Butterfi eld’s fi rst prize winner Ingleview Magician. Born in September 2013 this Lirr Drew Dempsey son is out of Saxelby Shottle Marie who is due with her sixth calf. Magician was knocked down to Mark Goodall, Tong, Bradford.


At 1450gns was Dalesbrad Hugo Boss a December 2012-born bull from Allan and Susan Throup. Sired by Bassingthorpe Bossman and out of a dam by Drake he sold to Alf and Andrew Townsend, Southfi eld, Burnley.


Maiden heifers from John Roberts and David and Jill Pennock peaked at £830 while in-calf entries sold to £1300 for one of Jeff Throup’s. Averages: 10 cows in milk £1354, 23 heifers in-milk £1421, six bulls £1491, four in-calf heifers £1170, 19 maiden heifers £581. (CCM Auctions)


Bulls lead Wright Marshall’s Month End Sale Bulls led trade at Beeston on Friday 24th

End Sale with a top price of £2400 for Woodmarsh Zincio from Mick Gould. This son of Mincio is backed by six generations of EX scored dams from the Zandra family and sold to Evans Brothers, Llanrhystud, Ceredigion.


Close behind at £2350 was another from the Goulds, this time a Doorman son out of the Melody family with him selling to Judith Reed, Haverfordwest. Trade was harder for milkers, with less buyers on the day. Top price at £1980 was a Jordan sired heifer from Andrew Birkle and selling to B and M Elkin, Stone. The Elkins also paid £1900 for a heifer by E-Longview CM from Jeremy Platt. The fi nal portion to disperse E E Pryce and Son’s spring calving, grazing herd from Montford Bridge sold up to £1300 for a second calver, with similar sorts selling between £1100 and £1280. Averages: nine Holstein Bulls £1794.44, 11 calved cows £1152.22, 34 calved heifers £1552.54, 21 grazing system cows £845.26. (Wright Marshall)


Gladvale Sale trade reaches 2700gns An outstanding trade was achieved at the dispersal sale of the Gladvale herd of pedigree Holstein Friesians for Mark and Fi Woodall at Dymock, Gloucestershire, with English, Welsh and Scottish briskly bidding for the quality cattle on offer resulting in 20 cattle making 2000gns or more. Top price was 2700gns for each of the inseparable Picston Shottle sired twins which were virtually ‘joined at the hip’ since birth. They are backed by three generations of EX or VG cows. One is fresh in her third lactation and the other sold a fortnight off calving her third to Destry. These twins stay together with R F J and R Partridge and Son, Broad Oak, Hereford, purchasing both. Next best at 2550gns was a second calved Askew Reece daughter selling to Thomas Plas, Carmarthenshire. Welshpool buyer A M Windsor paid 2300gns and 2250gns for heifers that calved last autumn. In-calf heifers peaked at 2000gns for a Reece daughter due in June to Goldenboy, she sold to R F J and R Partridge and Son.


Heifer calves sold to 1200gns for a daughter of Coldsprings Ponder out of a 9680kg Shottle dam. Buying her were W Bennett and Son of Newent, Gloucestershire. Averages: 74 cows and calved heifers £1921.50, (including 27 heifer calves at £680.17), 10 served heifers £1711.50, 11 maiden heifers £918.27. (Gwilym Richards and Co)
