Focusing the breeding policy on type for four decades has reaped rewards for the Jones family at Feithy - their herd was recognised as the UK Premier Pedigree Herd in 2014


inning the UK Premier Herd Award has been the icing on the cake for the Jones family who farm 350 acres at Kidwelly, Carmarthenshire. The herd which comprises 84 Excellent, 102 Very Good and five Good Plus two year olds has previously won the Welsh section of the competition on five occasions, finishing reserve in 2008 and honourable mention in 2012.

Wyn Jones is the third generation to farm at Cilfeithy Uchaf and farms alongside parents Eifion and Mary in what is a very much family run business. “We all muck in with milking, calf rearing and paperwork,” comments Wyn. “My brother Rhys comes back to help when he can, particularly with show preparation.” Eifion adds: “It was a great honour to win the Premier Herd Award, we are delighted to have the herd recognised at a national level and it is a reward for all the work we all put in.”
