Your News Five generations
The Irma family line at Gaitsgill is proving to be a strong breeding line that for Stuart Harrington. The foundation cow, Saxelby Mason Irma was purchased as one of 65 cows from the Saxelby herd to restock after foot and mouth. She arrived in April 2002 as a VG86 scored two year old just fresh in her
second lactation and then classified VG88, after her third she was EX91, going on to be EX95 in her eighth and 11th
lactations making her EX95-7E.
Her first heifer calf at Gaitsgill was Outside Irma 2 EX92-3E who is now at the end of her eighth lactation and due again with her ninth this summer. Gaitsgill Lyster Irma 2 VG87 was her fifth calf, then her next was Gaitsgill Bambam Irma EX91-2E. This was her best daughter to date and is now in the Richaven herd. They are followed by two more daughters, the second calved Razzle Irma 2 VG87 and Durable Irma VG85 two year old have both now got daughters on the ground. Her final two daughters are Gaitsgill Touchdown Irma Red VG86 and a calving heifer by Fever.
At 17 years old Mason Irma is still going strong, she has completed 112t lifetime and has twice been third place ‘Iron Grandma’ in the Border and Lakeland herd competition.
In December 2013 Gaitsgill Zelgadis Irma was the fifth generation of the Irma family on farm at the same time, she is a Zelgadis out of a GP82 Lucius, VG86 Stormatic, EX92-3E Outside and then Mason EX95-7E who herself is backed by three generations of VG and EX dams.
This was achieved again in April 2015 when twin Golden Dreams heifers were born out of Gaitsgill Lucius Irma. Quite a credit to Mason Irma who could potentially have a different line with five generations on farm with Gaitsgill Razzle Irma 3 due this summer to Addiction P Red.
