2550gns top at Carlisle Trade at the multi-breed sale at Carlisle on Wednesday 16th
April was up to
2550gns for third prize winner Espland Stanleycup Angela from Alan Cannon. Sired by Stanleycup and giving 40kg a day she sold to Mr Wilson, Blackbyres, Kilmarnock.
The days pre-sale champion Bowberhill Shottle Gina from Malcolm Hutchinson traded at 2250gns to Buckabank Farm, Dalston. She is the third generation from the Gina family to sell at the Border and Lakeland Club Sale and the second to be overall champion. At 2100gns was the Davidson family’s reserve champion Errolston E Brax Duchess Ricki. Sired by Braxton and going back to the former Royal Highland Show champion Stannock Formation Ricki EX96 she sold to J and J Barr, Fife. Other top prices included Wormanby Fever Twain from the Hodgson family who traded at 2100gns to Andrew Waddl, Dewshill. Backed by eight generations of EX or VG dams with the fourth dam being the famous Skychief daughter Eastside S Twain EX96 who was twice National Champion in Ireland. Spring Fever Sale trade to 2700gns Buyers at Greenslade Taylor Hunt’s Annual Spring Fever Sale yesterday saw a lack in demand for fresh milk apart from good quality cows and strong heifers. Trade peaked at 2700gns for Sophie Morgan’s Penrikka Benjamin Frances Red. This March calved heifer by Mistry Springs Benjamin Red is out of an Acme sired dam. Well bred cows from C J and S E Elmes sold to 1750gns for the second calved Swallowdale Golden Bluebell 156 who is backed by four generations of VG and EX dams. They also sold the GP83 Minister Dainty 84 at 1720gns.
At 1400gns was the 14-month old bull Dorset Orea, a Gillette Windbrook son from Dimond Farming. Also making the same money was Monckhaven Attitude Liberty Red, an in-calf heifer from M J and J R Monkton. Averages: calved cows £1698, calved heifers £1594.60, in-calf heifers £1338.75, bulls £1029, maiden heifers £758.34, heifer calves £462. (Greenslade Taylor Hunt)
Mid-Month Milkers to £2600 The Wright Marshall Mid Month Sale on 14th
April
saw 24 animals sell at more than £2000 to a top of £2600.
Leading trade was a heifer from Howard Walmsley, Garstang, Lancashire, when the hammer fell at £2600 to Richard Edwards, Tilstock, Wem. Fordswood Gun Shot Angel is a Shotgun daughter out of a GP83 scored Damion dam.
At £2500 was another Lancashire heifer, Enchanted Terrason Della, this heifer sold giving
38kg a day to John Bayley, Nuneaton. Mr Bayley also paid £2400 for Whitecarr Lavanguard Threat, a heifer backed by 10 generations of VG or EX from Tom Cowell, Kirkham. Cows sold up to £2500 for the second calved Dilandy Rona Ido Prudence from Andrew Shakeshaft. She was purchased by T H Evans, Denbigh, who also purchased a second calved Groovy daughter from the same home at £2300. At £2400 was a Metallic sired heifer from Harry Jolly, while Steve Garth sold an Artes heifer at £2350.
In-calf heifers met a great trade with a top price of £1950 paid for Palmero sired heifer from eight generations of VG or EX dams from the Roxy family. Consigned by Phil and Sue Wyn she sold to David Drinkall.
At £1820 was Wyman heifer from the Olga family from the same home and selling to G Green and Son, Lach Dennis. Averages: 77 cows £1352.06, 186 milking heifers £1578.92, 51 in-calf and served heifers £1332.12, 89 maiden heifers £734.15, 30 heifer calves £273.53. (Wright Marshall)
Craven dairy trade peaks at £1900 twice The April pedigree dairy sale at Skipton included the sale of bulls and heifers with a joint top price of £1900 paid twice for females.
Show judge Brian Blezard from Ribchester backed his judging decisions by paying £1900 for the champion and reserve. Pre-sale champion was Newbirks Jazz 1612, a Bassingthorpe Bossman daughter from David and Claire Lawson. Two weeks fresh this heifer sold giving 28kg.
Standing reserve and achieving the joint top price was Mark and Karen Calvert’s 55kg Calton Focus Ruby, a third calved Ralma Focus daughter out of Altas Ruby and backed by 11 generations of VG or EX.
