A tremendous show of Holstein cattle at Moira


attracted a large crowd for the Irish National Holstein Show


ecuring the overall honours at the Irish National Holstein Show for the second successive year was County Monaghan-based David and Kenny Boyd’s Glaslough Miss Petra. This EX93 scored Mr Minister daughter is now in her fifth lactation having calved in January and is giving 60 litres a day and has already produced more than of 50,000kg throughout her lifetime. Commenting on his champion, judge Mick Gould from the noted Woodmarsh herd said:

“Everyone aspires to breed a Holstein cow like this, she oozes style, power and strength and was an outright winner.” Miss Petra is no stranger to success having notched up championship wins at the Irish National Holstein Show, Balmoral Show and Millstreet, as well as taking the Royal Dublin Society champion of champions title, the IHFA All-Ireland mature cow and runner-up for the Baileys title in 2014. Ella VG89 from the Patton family. Fresh in October and giving 40 litres a day, she is back in-calf and due in September to Seagull Bay Silver. She was nominated All-Britain junior second calver having stood honourable mention overall at the Royal Ulster Winter Fair. “This is a tremendous young cow and came through winning the strongest class of the evening,” added Mick. “She has so much length throughout with super height and width of rear udder.” Hilltara Monsoon Lulu stood honourable mention for Sam and John McCormick. Classified EX92, this December fresh third calver is giving 50 litres and is by the homebred Innwood Terrason son, Hilltara Monsoon and is out of Dalevalley Astronomical A Lulu. “This third calver is a real sweet cow with a beautiful frame and lovely open rib. In the junior championship Steven Robinson’s October 2012-born in-calf heifer Ernevale Destry Lulu Red took the honours. Sired by Scientific Destry, she is out of Ernevale S Storm Lulu and was purchased at Seamus Gunn’s youngstock sale in 2013. Standing reserve junior champion was the Patton family’s Ards Atwood Ashlyn, an October 2013-born Atwood daughter out of Lomond Damion Ashlyn EX93. She was champion at the Northern Ireland Calf Show 2014, second at All Breeds All Britain and reserve All Britain junior heifer 2014. Honourable mention in the junior section
