Honourable mention went to the first prize third calver Glasson Shottle JG Gail from Philip and Simon Haffey. Classified VG89 as a second calver, she carries a gTPI of 2250, fresh in March she is giving 48kg a day. Last year she stood first in the second calver class at Balmoral Show. She is backed by five generations of Excellent dams with her dam being Glasson J Goldwyn Gail EX92 and she goes back to Univers Tab Gail EX93. The top three also achieved reserve interbreed championship titles, first off Clonpaddin MPW Jill stood honourable mention in the overall interbreed championship under Owain Harries. She was then joined by Ards Atwood Lou
Ella to stand reserve interbreed pairs. Glasson Shottle JG Gail then joined to take reserve interbreed group of three.
In the heifer championship the senior
heifers led the way with Glaslough Miss Persia from David and Kenny Boyd taking the top spot. This August calved heifer is giving 36kg a day and is full sister to Glaslough Miss Petra who was grand champion at Balmoral Show last year and the Irish National this year. Classified VG88, she is by Mr Minister and out of Glaslough Lyster Petal EX93.
Following her in to reserve was the second prize senior heifer Wiltor Atwood Sharon from Conor McAufield. This VG88 scored heifer is 15 months calved and still giving 47kg. She was heifer champion at Balmoral Show 2014 and reserve heifer champion at the Irish National 2015. Her dam is Washfold Bolton Sharon 2 VG89 and she is backed by a further nine eight VG or EX cows.
