SUPER SUCCESS ATAGRISCOT
Once again AgriScot attracted a quality show of cows with winners and champions from across the country competing for the SuperCow and SuperHeifer titles
H
olsteins enjoyed great success at AgriScot taking both SuperHeifer and SuperCow titles. Judge Edward Griffiths from the Coachgate herd had the challenge of judging all breed classes and championships on the day and commented: “I have been coming to AgriScot for many years and the quality in the Holstein classes this year was the best I have seen here.” Once again AgriScot attracted exhibitors from across the country and in turn a crowd of more than 12,000 descended on Ingliston. Securing the SuperCow title was the Holstein champion Peak Goldwyn Rhapsody from Yasmin Bradbury. Coming through as the winner of the mature class ahead of her full sister in third, this fifth calver was fresh in June and was shown giving 55kg a day. Having won the interbreed championship at UK Dairy Expo in March in her fourth lactation she has since stood third at UK Dairy Day. Classified EX96, this Goldwyn daughter is the fourteenth generation EX scored cows and her dam is the EX90 Peak Shottle Rhapsody. She also won the PLI award in the mature class with a PLI of +£345, in her last 305-day lactation she produced 15,620kg at 4.34%bf and 3.37%p.

Commenting on the SuperCow, Edward said: “This cow was a runaway winner today, she is a true type Holstein and is everything a commercial farmer is looking for. Being a medium sized cow she would suit any system and shows all the signs of being a high production cow with longevity. “ Earlier in the day David Jones led Ortongrange Snowman Alysia to take the SuperHeifer honours. Owned with wife Claire, this January 2012-born heifer was purchased from Kev Rickard after standing second at the Royal Welsh Show in July and she has since stood third at UK Dairy Day. Classified VG87, she calved in May and is giving 40 litres a day and is by Flevo Genetics
