Wright Marshall October Month End Wright Marshall’s Month End Sale in October saw a top price of £2350 achieved twice, fi rstly for Coton-End End-Story Pansy from Tomkinson Farms. This GP80 scored heifer is out of a VG89 dam by High Society Sambo and sold giving 37 litres a day. Buying her and the other top price as well as 17 other cattle were B G and M A Elkin, Stone, Staffordshire. Second to reach the £2350 mark was Lachstone Tiergan H Kerry from H and T J N Platt, Lach Dennis, Northwich. She calved at one year eleven months and is out of Lachstone Hatley Kerry, a Coldsprings Hatley daughter. Another fi ve heifers sold for £2300 apiece including a Pine
Tree Sid from Tomkinson Farms and four heifers by New Farm Britt Prince, Bassingthorpe Drayman, Morningview Levi and Woodmarsh Lotto, all from J and T J N Platt, Northwich. Leading price in the Focus Milk section at £2250 was Leesemanor Bolton Flo from Mrs L H Lomas and Son, Byley. Backed by six generations of VG and Ex dams she sold to the Elkins. The top price in the cows was £1950 for a second calf daughter of Walhowdon Marshall Harry from W Ridge of Rotherham. Raby herd dispersal
The dispersal of Margaret and Christine Ford’s Raby herd of British Freisians attracted buyers from all over the British Isles on Thursday 30th October.
Sale leader at 3000gns was the smart young BFV89 second calver Raby Jasmine 59. Sired by Blackisle Garve she was due to calve her third calf in March to Parbury Venue. She sold to an undisclosed Yorkshire buyer.
Second top at 2250gns and heading to the same home as Jasmine 59 was Raby Buttercup 123. Classifi ed BFV87 this fi ve week fresh Blackisle Garve daughter is out of an BFE93 Glen Albyn sired dam.
Making 2200gns was the top price bull, Raby Prince, selling to P C Williams, Ruthin. He is by Blackisle Benloyal and out of the BFE92 Raby Aster, a Parbury Venue sired dam.
Basil Lawson, Fife, secured 14 head for his Lismulligan herd and paid 2000gns on two occasions. First was the BFE90 Blackisle Benloyal daughter Raby Anemone 165 BFE90, she is in-calf with her fourth. Next was Raby Heather 112 BFV88, a second calved Parbury Venue daughter. Biggest buyer on the day was Evan McKeeman, Northern Ireland, who is setting up a new herd near Ballymoney, Co Antrim. He created a valuable nucleus for his new enterprise when he purchased 26 cows.
Richard Pilkington purchased a red Shamrock yearling for 1680gns, while heifer calves were up to 1050gns for a Grove Invader daughter out of an BFE92 Geranium. This one sold to Stewart Braid, Dumfries. Averages: 117 cows and calved heifers £1463.26, 17 served heifers £1517.56, 40 bulling heifers £1080.71, 20 yearling heifers £882.52, 9 bulls £1264.67. Cloverfi elds herd dispersal
A top price of 2000gns was achieved twice at Michael and Marilyn Day’s Cloverfi elds dispersal on Tuesday 4th November at Sedgmoor. The herd from Wadebridge saw Cloverfi elds Garrett Jenny the fi rst to sell at 2000gns, she was fresh in October with her second calf. Also reaching 2000gns was the fresh calved four year old, Cloverfi elds Zinnia. Youngstock were also sought after and an in-calf heifer by Peacehay Black Magic that was due in November to Ashlar realised 1500gns. At the same money was a Shottle daughter, due in December. Red and White twin heifers by Topspeed Kodak and out of the VG86 Marcroft Fab Mouse Red sold at 15 months old for 1420gns each. Averages: Cows including ‘A’ lots £1312.83, barren and older cows £537, in-calf and served heifers £1269.45, yearling heifers £807, heifer calves £482.13. (Greenslade Taylor Hunt)
Holstein bulls hit 8700gns at Moira An attractive catalogue of modern pedigrees, proven cow families and components contributed to a buoyant trade and 97% clearance for bulls at Moira.
The sale ring was packed, and with a 97% clearance rate, demand outstripped supply leaving many customers returning home empty handed. Overall 27 bulls sold to average £3107 – an increase of £731 on this time last year.
Sale leader at 8700gns was the sixteen-month-old Ballycrochan Aramis Red ET PLI £191 consigned by Clare Patterson, Bangor, County Down. Sired by the Scientifi c Destry son Lookout P Redburst, Aramis is out of the world renowned $1,000,000 KHW Regiment Apple Red EX96.
His dam has a string of accolades to her credit, including Holstein International World champion Red and White Cow 2010, champion Red and White World Dairy Expo 2011, All American Red and White aged cow 2011, reserve champion Red and White World Dairy Expo 2013, and Red Impact Cow of the Year 2013.
