Rowarton Baltimor Anita from Roger and Pat Sutton, she is out of an EX92 Marathon sired dam and sold producing 34kg to P and A Mercer, Malpas. Two heifers then traded at £2350 each, a Woodmarsh Topshot daughter from Messrs Boughey and a Kings-Ransom Richman daughter from the Bowdens, purchasing both was Richard Williams, Wrinehill. There were also two heifers sold at £2300 each, a Fever daughter from Matthew Jackson and a Garrett daughter from the Taylors, while a further 14 broke the £2000 barrier.


In-calf heifers sold to £1680 for a December calver from A J Thompson, Kent, while maiden heifers were up to £1000 twice, both were August 2013-born Lavanguard daughters from Peter Rout, Tibbenham. Averages: 59 cows £1407.45 (including three Focus Milk Cows at £1726.67), 154 milking heifers £1623.57 (including 28 Focus Milk heifers at £1840), 33 in-calf and served heifers £1284.55, 71 maiden heifers £672.96, 41 heifer calves £418.54. November Show and Sale at Gisburn Trade at Gisburn Auction Marts’ November Dairy Show and Sale saw Philip Critchley’s pre-sale champion make a top price of £2280. This pedigree heifer by Styche Sole is out of a dam by Shottle, she sold 10 days fresh and giving 30 litres to William Oldfi eld, Clitheroe.


Next best at £2080 was a Cogent Twist sired heifer from James and Anne Rogerson, giving 37 litres she sold to D J Wallbank, Preston. A fresh heifer by Lavanguard from the same home sold for £2020 to J J and J D Graves, Carlisle. (Richard Turner and Son)


Sedgemoor Collective Sale


The November Collective Sale at Sedgemoor saw a top price of 2050gns for Bettiscombe Davis Sabrina from Roland and Simon Buglers. This fresh heifer by L-V-R Mr Sam Davis is out of a dam by Principal. Two second calvers from the same home then traded at 2000gns,


fi rst to reach this mark was Bettiscombe Diamond Lenora 44. Sired by the Shottle son Richaven Diamond she is out of the VG88 Bettiscombe Talent Lenora 24. Classifi ed GP80 as a heifer she produced 10,974kg at 3.56%bf and 3.12%p in her fi rst lactation. At the same money was Bettiscombe Leif Leah GP83, she is by Leif and gave 10,344kg at 3.38%bf and 3.11%p as a heifer. In-calf heifers sold up to 1740gns for Barrina Shottle Marie from D J and A M Morris. This June 2012-born Shottle daughter is out of Panda Gold Marie GP83 and was due in December to Pello. Averages: calved cows £1950.38, calved heifers £1618.50, in-calf heifers £1279, bulling heifers £895, heifer calves £393. (Greenslade Taylor Hunt)


Wright Marshall Month End Dairy Sale There were 139 entries forward for the November Month End Dairy Sale at Beeston, despite a milk price cut announcement the morning of the sale buyers had travelled from Scotland, North Devon and West Wales. As you would expect with a milk price cut trade was less, but only four cattle went unsold. Leading trade at £2700 was Burnbrae Hayden Vaakje from Jack and Barclay Taylor who sold through the Western Club’s Focus Milk section. This Wa-Del Hayden daughter is backed by 10 generations of Excellent dams, her dam being Stardale Royal Vaakje EX90, a Joylan Royal Flush, as well as having two EX sisters. Fresh at the end of October she was purchased by Les Trow, Shrewsbury. Roger, Pat, Greg and Andrew Sutton’s Rowarton herd dominated the next six top prices with a super run of heifers. Top price for this herd at £2550 was Rowarton Fever Annette 2nd. By Crackholm Fever she is out of a VG88 dam and then backed by

fi ve generations of straight Excellents. She sold to J Royall and Sons, Alsagers Bank, Stoke on Trent. Brian Park from Haughton, Stafford, paid £2400 twice and £2250 to secure daughters of Zebra, Baltimore and Bossman, while Daffyd Hughes of Manordeilo, Carmarthenshire, purchased an Alta Delwin daughter at £2350 and another by Baltimore at £2250.


A further two heifers broke the £2000 barrier, Steve Garth sold a Woodmarsh Metallic daughter at £2100, while Mark Mottershead got £2050 for a Sandy Valley X Ray sired heifer.


Mr Mottershead also achieved the best price for cows at £1900 for a second calved Askew Reece daughter, she sold to Arthur Nicholas, Tarporley. Averages: 8 Cows £1534.28, 59 Milking Heifers £1544.66 (including 21 Focus Milk and Glorious Milkers at £1805.50). (Wright Marshall)


Border and Lakeland Club Sale The November Border and Lakeland Show and Sale combined an excellent offering of freshly calved cows and heifers, show calves, breeding bulls and a fi ne herd dispersal from Ayrshire. Demand for fresh milk remained strong and buyers were willing to invest in quality heifers. Leading trade on the day was Lillyhall Goldsun Bonita from Allan and Christine Watson who sold off the remaining Holstein young stock from their Lillyhall herd. This December 2013-born Goldsun heifer is out of the 20,000gns Overside Mr Sam Bonita EX92 who was purchased at the Black and White Sale 2008. Securing this heifer at 3000gns was David Brewster for his Boclair herd. Second top price and leading trade for milkers was the super uddered DG Golden Alto from Noel McCarragher. This Gold Chip daughter is out of KHW Sanchez Andex, who is out of KHW Goldwyn Aiko EX91, a sister of KHW Regiment Apple EX96. Fresh at the end of October she sold at 2800gns to an undisclosed buyer. Also making 2800gns was Lillyhall Beauty Butterfl y from the Watsons, sired by Niagra this daughter of Texel Beauty Butterfl y VG86 sold to D and M C Taylor, Whitehouse Farm. Duncan and Helen Horsley purchased Seabreeze Seaver Lupin for their Woodcatt herd. Consigned by W C and J Leak, Holmrook, this heifer is backed by two Excellent scored dams. At 2650gns was Bowberhill Motivator Celicia from Malcolm Hutchinson, sired by Denmire Mr Motivator she is out of the VG87 Bowberhill Majestic Celicia. Three weeks fresh she sold to F Talbot and Co, Preston. Lillyhall Snowmaster Bria sold for 2600gns to J and J Kinloch, Dumbarton. Sired by Snowmaster she is out of the VG87 Lillyhall Niagra Bria who is backed but 12 more generations of VG and EX dams.


The day’s pre-sale champion was David McMiken’s Ernespie Flossie 3, by the Wedgwood Laramie son Ernespie Larry she is out of a VG85 homebred dam. Fresh in the middle of October she sold giving 35 litres to an undisclosed buyer. Averages: three cows £1701, 89 heifers in milk £1792.98, two bulls £1417.50, eight Lillyhall maiden heifers £1942.50.
