Numbers were up and many felt the standard and quality in the National British Friesian Show was the best seen for a long time at the Livestock Event

udge Bill O’Keeffe from the Churchclara herd in Southern Ireland tapped out his champion in the form of Oakalby Rebel Cherry 115 from the Suffolk-based Burroughs family. This second calved Oakalby Rebel daughter calved in May and is out of Oakalby Conrad Cherry 66 BFE91. Earlier in the season Rebel Cherry stood third at Suffolk Show. This is the fourth British Friesian championship at this event for the 260-head Oakalby herd.
Describing his champion and reserve Bill said: “Two lovely cows headed the championship with not much between them on body, however, it was the width and height in the rear udder and extra quality in the udder texture that gave my top cow the advantage.”
Standing reserve was the Howarth family’s second prize junior
cow, Raby Jasmine 59 BFE92. Sired by Blackisle Garve this third calver was purchased at the Raby dispersal sale. Previously unshown she calved in March and was shown giving 35kg a day. Her dam is the BFV87 Darleymoor Banner daughter Raby Jasmine 52. The Burroughs family also stood honourable mention with Oakalby Rebel Buttercup 130, an Oakalby Rebel daughter. This BFV85 classified cow calved her fourth in May and is now giving 44kg a day. She stood first at Livestock Event 2014 and is out of Oakalby Kingsman Buttercup 80 BFV86.
In the heifer in milk class the red rosette went to Lismulligan Lucy 64 from the Burroughs family. Purchased as a maiden heifer for 1200gns from Basil and Adam Lawson she stood third at the All Breeds All Britain Calf Show. Shown eight weeks fresh and giving 28kg a day

this Lismulligan Mufasa daughter is out of Lismulligan Lucy 57 BFV89. Gemini Patrol Cher won the maiden and in-calf heifer class for Ava Barrell. This April 2013 born heifer is by Skyhigh Patrol and out of Gemini Magnets Cher 2. She stood fourth at the All Britain All Breeds Calf Show 2013 where her twin sister was first and honourable mention.
