CLUBS ONLINE
EAST MIDLANDS The Club has
sprung back to life in the past couple of years thanks to the outstanding efforts of Alan Smith of Bumblebee Holsteins, during his time as Club chairman. Blaise Tomlinson has taken over as chairman and is
already continuing to push the Club forward further. Congratulations to him as well on winning the Regional Judges Conference.
Thanks and appreciation is also due to the Winters family, Corringham, the Hill family, Tiptoe, and Club President Peter Ward, Ashtop, for hosting three successful stock judging evenings.
The Club would also like to thank master judges Philip Oliver and Alan Timbrell who must have worked their magic with the HYB members.
A great day was had at the National HYB Competitions Day which was hosted by the Marshall family at Overseal. Well done to all involved including our fantastic young members Sally Robinson, Tom Smith, Andrew Thomas, George Thomas, Ella Jarram, Evie Tomlinson and Frank Griffin, who are a real credit to the Club.
Final congratulations must go to Tom Smith on being selected for the European Young Breeders School in Belgium.
MIDLAND
Members enjoyed a herd visit to Andrew Birkle’s Whinchat herd at Wymeswold, Leicestershire, where the interest was the many families in the herd. In June, some 20 members travelled to South Wales for our annual spring trip. The weather was kind to us and we enjoyed visiting many different types of systems and saw some great cows. We visited 2000 cows at Hywel Richard’s Cwrtmalle Farm and the Davies family’s Castelhyfryd Holsteins where we enjoyed a fantastic lunch in glorious sunshine and admired his Rosina family. We also met the Thomas family of the Saint Clear herd and admired the Crossrigg Goldstar daughters, before travelling to Cardigan to see the well known Tregibby herd of the Wilson family. We also saw several interesting families at the Roberts family’s Dulais herd in Llanelli, along with an exciting visit to view a new set up by the Davies family at Coombe Farm, Llangynog and tried to pick the best cow in the field at the Lan herd of the Bowen family – not an easy task. Thanks to all our hosts for welcoming us and thanks to Richard Thomas for arranging the herds. The Club’s Calf Show will be held on Sunday 6th September at Rugby Farmers Mart, Stoneleigh, in conjunction with the Central Counties Club and judge will be Ben Yates.
Congratulations to Sarah Sutton on being selected for the European Young Breeders School in Belgium in early September – good luck to the UK HYB team.
