News Focus Keep up to date with the latest news, views and events from Holstein UK Open Farm Sunday
The Saxelby herd was opened up to the public on Open Farm Sunday for the second year with more than 700 visitors. This year everyone enjoyed a sunny day out and were able to watch cows being milked, sheep sheared and the vet pregnancy scanning a few cows. Tractors and Machinery were borrowed from local dealers and farmers and were washed and polished for the children to sit in. A nature walk was also marked out around the farm and afternoon teas were served. Open Farm Sunday offers an insight in to farming and where food comes from for the public. A free family day out encourages people to visit and fi nd out more about modern farming and agriculture.
Feithy Open Day
Eifi on, Mary, Wyn, Mary and Rhys Jones opened the doors of their Feithy herd to more than 500 visitors on the last Saturday of June. Visitors, while enjoying the beautiful weather, spent most of their day admiring the herd of 72 Excellents, 95 VG’s and 20 GP two year olds, while catching up with fellow enthusiasts. The day drew to a reluctant close after a tasty lunch and TAG sale achieving a top price of £5000. Holstein UK would like to sincerely thank all sponsors, visitors and mostly, the Jones family for their fantastic hospitality.

WESTERN looking to Genomics
The long
established Western Holstein Club’s Wexham Bull Show and Sale will this year have a new award for genomically tested bulls. In recognition of the increased use of genomics in breeding today the Club will offer the opportunity for bulls with the greatest potential to be marketed to their best advantage, giving vendors recognition for their bulls and providing purchasers with more information to make their breeding decisions. Vendors wishing to enter the new class will need to have a 26K UKGPLI genomic test carried out on their bull.
For further information regarding this event which takes place at Beeston Castle on 5th
