HOLSTEINS DOMINATE THE ROYAL HIGHLAND
Holsteins were very much to the fore at the Royal Highland Show achieving a clean sweep in the interbreed championshipships
espite only 26 Holsteins being forward for this year’s Royal Highland Show, the quality throughout all the classes was incredibly strong as judge Hugh Neilson commented: “It was a tremendous show of cattle, although the numbers weren’t high every animal was worthy of being there.”

Emerging victorious in the Holstein section, as well as the interbreed championship was Parkend Sanchez Tamara from Brian Weatherup. Sired by Sanchez she is out of an EX91 Shottle sired dam. This is the second Royal Highland Show title for Tamara who was breed champion 2014. She was also All Britain junior cow in 2014, she won Super Heifer at AgriScot 2013 and was All Britain senior heifer that same year. Classified maximum score of VG89 as a second calver, she was shown six weeks fresh with her third calf and giving 63kg a day. Interbreed judge Robert Burrow said: “The Holstein champion displays power and size she has advantage for her strength of loin, super veination through her udder and paraded well on her hind legs.” David Brewster’s heifer champion also took interbreed honours. Boclair Sid Hope was led to success by David Gray and came through as the winner of the senior heifer class before standing Holstein heifer champion. She calved in November at 25 months old and is giving 32kg a day. She stood first junior two year old at UK Dairy Expo and heifer champion at Ayr Show. Classified VG86 she is out of Boclair Goldwyn Hope 2 EX92. “I admired the overall quality of this heifer, she has a super udder and paraded tremendously well. She took advantage for her length of udder and the dairy quality throughout her udder, she also used her
