David Luke announces partnership with the Circular Textiles Foundation

D The Lux Padded Jacket and Vest

Stedman introduces new Lux jackets in autumn

A

fter the successful market launch of the high-quality Lux T-shirt in January this year, three jackets and vests join Stedman’s Lux range in the autumn. The Lux Padded Jacket is made from high quality nylon and provides excellent protection against the cold. An especially handy feature of the jacket, which is available for both men and women, is its practical stow-away function. High-quality SBS zippers, also on the two side pockets, guarantee long-lasting use. The Lux Padded Vest is the logical sleeveless complement to the jacket, lightweight and warming as its counterpart, and offers the same features that make them perfect companions for outdoor adventures. Both are available in black opal and blue midnight. Sizes range from S to 5XL for men and XS to 3XL for women.

The Lux Softshell Jacket‘s functional three-layer fabric is both water-repellent and breathable (water resistance 5,000mm, breathability 1,000gsm), with the soft and cosy fleece layer on the inside providing comfortable warmth. It is available for men (S to 5XL) and women (XS to 3XL) in black opal and blue midnight.

avid Luke has announced a pioneering new partnership with the Circular Textiles

Foundation.

Known for its ground-breaking approach to adopting sustainable practices in manufacturing and across the business, David Luke will be the first school uniform brand to join the Circular Textiles Foundation’s revolution with the aim of making its products 100% recyclable to ensure they never need to go to landfill or incineration.

The Circular Textiles Foundation is the first of its kind; the ground-breaking initiative provides an independent circularity standard for genuine accountability, transparency, and peace of mind. In making circularity accessible to all, the foundation turns the concept into a reality. As David Luke celebrates its 40th anniversary, the team find themselves going full circle as their blazers become the focal point for innovative sustainability practices once again. Over a decade ago, David Luke blazers became the first in the industry to be manufactured using recycled polyester from post-consumer plastic bottles, placing the brand at the forefront of the schoolwear industry. The Circular Textiles Foundation certification mark will be carried on Eco Blazers and Jackets from January 2023 with a goal to

M

encompass the entire eco-uniform range for future collections. This mark guarantees that the garment has been designed to be recycled by a specific facility, which processes it into new fabric at end of use. The fabric can then be used to make new clothing, eliminating waste, reducing the need for virgin materials, and reducing CO2 emissions. David Luke customers can actively join in with the brand’s circular journey by scanning the QR code found on the garment’s tag to find out how and where it can be recycled. The challenge in making this work is to ensure every element of the blazer or jacket is made from polyester.

Kathryn Shuttleworth, managing director at David Luke, said: “Our vision for the next decade is that we use recycled fibres made from clothing not plastic bottles. We want to make our school uniform completely circular: made from recycled materials which mean it is 100% recyclable and it never needs to go to landfill. With immediate effect we will be designing our Eco Blazer and Jackets with this specific goal in mind, aiming for every item to be returned to thread or fibre, ready for its next incarnation and available to buy from January 2023.”

Merchandise World visitors increase by 10%

erchandise World took place on Wednesday, September 14 at the

Marshall Area in Milton Keynes. In what was a traumatic week for the country following the passing of Queen Elizabeth II, the industry supported the event and as a result visitor numbers increased by 10% on 2021. Having had the most recent Merchandise World in Coventry in April earlier this year, after having to move from January due to COVID-19, it was unclear how many visitors would actually attend. Over 80 suppliers exhibited and over 400 industry distributors attended, which was 10% more than attended MW in Milton Keynes in 2021.

Once again Eco World proved a popular attraction as the market becomes

more and more keen to know the eco-credentials of products. Plans are underway for Eco World to be an even more prominent feature in Coventry in January 2023.

Show organiser, Ella Long, said: “The enthusiasm and desire from the trade to attend or exhibit never ceases to amaze me. It is a great privilege to organise an event that facilitates positive discussions and relationships in an industry that is rebuilding from the pandemic, and a pleasure to enable that face to face contact again. We are very grateful of the support of our exhibitors who attract the quality of visitors who attend the show time after time, and we are well into the planning for our 10th Merchandise World in January. We expect it to be best and biggest yet!“
