Focus on Digital Printing
Local production driving global change The textile industry is set to see signifi cant change in the next few years as local production gathers pace. Driven by enhances in digital print technology, print service providers can now create a much wider range of applications at a fraction of the investment.
They can do this nearer to the point of demand for fast and responsive order delivery while also printing just what is required when it is required. There is no need to ship or over order. This reduces carbon footprint, costs, and the need to store stock.
Digitally printing textiles can reduce water and electricity consumption, too. It can deliver greater control of production in terms of quality, turnaround times, cost, and profi tability. It can result in very little waste going to landfi ll or being sent abroad for disposal. The technology also responds to the demand for customised products. More than a third of consumers are interested in personalised textile products and are happy to pay a premium, according to Smithers’ The Future of Digital Textile Printing to 2026 survey. It predicted digital textile printing volumes will increase by 13.9% CAGR from 2021 to 2026, to reach 5.531 million square meters annually.
SureColor SC-F3000
One of the reasons for this optimism is digital textile printing’s low global printed textile market penetration. It currently stands at 6% and Smither’s expects it to reach 10% as the technology and supply chains catch up with demand. Another was its positive performance in the pandemic aided by an uplift in home furnishings as consumers spent time redecorating.
Epson’s solutions are kinder to the environment than traditional production methods as they eliminate the need to use huge amounts of water for washing and steaming after printing. They include the desktop SureColor SC-F2100 DTG printer, which offers a complete package for designing and printing T shirts, polo shirts, sweatshirts, baby clothes, tote bags and other cotton items and the SureColor SC-F3000, capable of producing complex designs in a quick turnaround, on a variety of light and dark cotton garments.
