Is China’s bubble about to burst?

The amusement industry in China is booming, with new attractions, expansions and even completely new parks rapidly cropping up – leaving many to question when this ‘bubble’ will eventually burst. There seems to be no signs of China’s accelerated enthusiasm slowing down any time soon however, with major operators continuing to invest in not just new rides, but whole new parks.

F

or those who have visited some of the major parks in China this may come as a bit of a surprise, as by western standards the parks

often appear very quiet, even on weekends it can seem like there are more staff than guests. The OCT Group are continuing to expand their Happy Valley chain of parks and their new Vision Land branded

parks. Happy Valley Chongqing and Vision Land Liuzhou both opened this summer, increasing the company’s portfolio to 11 parks across China. Happy Valley Chongqing features four roller coasters, including a B&M Wing Coaster, GCI wooden coaster and a Family Boomerang from Vekoma. Vision Land Liuzhou also features four coasters, with an Intamin Megalite amongst them. Their existing parks are also receiving further investment

with Happy Valley Chengdu debuting two new roller coasters this summer, a GCI wooden coaster and custom B&M Dive Coaster. In 2018 Happy Valley Beijing is also set to get two more roller coasters, a B&M family inverted coaster almost identical to that at Happy Valley Shanghai, and a custom B&M hyper coaster. Before the paint has even dried on the parks in Chongqing and Liuzhou, the OCT Group have released concept artwork on the next two parks they intend to build, Changde Vision Land which will be on a new man made island and Happy Valley Nanjing. Chimelong Paradise in Guangzhou has this summer installed the second Premier Rides coaster to be built in China. Rocket Roller Coaster is the first Sky Rocket II to be built in Asia, and given the popularity of the ride it is likely to be followed by more.
