How are you using social media to connect with your guests both during and after their visit?

Kevin Stumpf, Hersheypark: Social media allows us to have a true two-way conversation and connect directly with our guests. As they're planning a visit, we share special offers, answer any questions and provide tips to help families maximize their time and memories at Hersheypark. Our team is constantly monitoring Facebook, Twitter and Instagram to share some of the amazing photos guests share while they're in the Park. We view social media as an extension of our Guest Services team and a place to virtually experience our Park until you can join us in person.

Don Helbig, Kings Island: Social media has changed the way we communicate, engage and interact with our guests. Digital transformation in the amusement and theme park industry is no longer an option – it’s survival. You have to be up to speed with the best new practices for Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and Snapchat for digital-storytelling to influence how guests think and feel about your park before, during and after their visit. Less than 40 percent of our guests will include our social media handle with their posts, which makes social listening a key part in finding and interacting with them during their visit.

Richard Smith, Flambards: Social media is now all part of our customer service! Pre-visit enquiries come via Facebook comments, messenger, tweets and questions on trip advisor. Visitors expect an instant response and we do our best to respond and manage pro-actively as it’s important for converting interest into an advance booking. We monitor channels during opening hours and if someone is unhappy about something we’ll aim to contact them in person – we still believe in face to face on the day where we can! Reviews are encouraged on Facebook, Google+ and trip advisor - all monitored and responded to.

Wayne Burton, Alton Towers: Our social media strategy is key to helping support our guest journey and plays an integral part in our overall communication plan. We have a series of on Resort engagement activities that encourage our guests to share their experience while visiting the Resort. For example, we have photo competition opportunities for families to take part in, as well as our Big 6 Challenge which offered thrill seekers the chance to gain a free return ticket when they ride our big 6 coasters in one day. Social Media allows us to essentially provide guests with a bespoke concierge service, both prior to and during their visit: tailoring their experience with personal recommendations, live park information, and securing restaurant reservations, to ensure they get the most from their time with us.
