Taking a risk By 2000 we had just about all of the major UK parks as regular clients, however I decided that I wanted to divert my attention to the Middle East. Whilst commercially this wasn’t a great success it exposed us to a much broader variety of rides, and we came to realise that we had developed a deep understanding of the electro-mechanical functionality of them. In 2003 we turned our focus back to the UK, however by
now our core focus was on the engineering of the rides. Our core skill set gave us all the knowledge we needed to offer a refurbishment service, as well as manufacturing rides and a variety of other technical services.

We are often the unsung heroes, changing parts of rides that the public doesn’t even notice, in order to make them safer, more reliable or complaint with the current standard. We are a ‘go-to’ source for technical information for many park operators all over the world but we really specialise in retrofit control and drive systems for older rides, specifically the large old German rides. As we have gone along we have picked up many new skills, and continue to offer all of them. In reality they all form part of the overall homogenous offering and goes some way to differentiating us in the market place, because we can offer genuine turnkey solutions, predominantly in-house.
High profile projects Over the past few years we have re-located and refurbished many large rides, as well as well as provided many retrofit control systems. These include the Rampage roller coaster at The Big Sheep, a new control and drive system for the oldest Ferris wheel in Italy and a similar project for the Ferris wheel at Winter Wonderland. We have also sold dozens of used rides to parks all over
the world, offering full manufacturing facilities. We were the largest single supplier of rides at the recent re-launch of Dreamland in Margate, selling over 1.5 million pounds worth of equipment. We have also been dealing with the disposals for a very large operator in the Middle East.
Future plans We are currently working on a people mover, which is destined for one of the UK’s major parks, and we will continue to provide the retrofit control systems. With the new EN13814 standard many of the current control systems are fast becoming obsolete and require compliant replacement. The USA has been a strong market for us for a number of
years and I see this strengthening further. Just last month we picked up three new US based clients for control system projects. Going forward I anticipate that we will get much more people mover business. We have had many enquiries for this over the years and we now have the engineering in place to address this demand.
