Ride Profile www.parkworld-online.com

“The layouts that they propose are completely adapted to

the needs of the park. A few years ago we thought it would be impossible to have a wood coaster at Parc Saint Paul, but after the construction of The Wooden Warrior and the Roar- o-Saurus in the US we thought it was maybe possible.” Work on the ride began in early, February and it opened

to the public on July 1. “There were some logistical challenges with getting our materials delivered as quickly as we needed them,” revealed Kiepert, “but we moved some tasks around in the schedule, such as when the station and storage area were built, and by working together with the park and having open communication about our revised plan, we were able to get the ride open within our original schedule.”

The majority of The Gravity Group’s previous work has been in China and the USA - Wood Express is only the fourth coaster the company has built in Europe, and the first galvanized steel structured wooden roller coaster in Europe.

The ride has improved the overall visitor experience at Parc

Saint Paul in a number of ways, according to Campion. “Asking our guests as they exit the ride, they said that Wood Express is now their favourite ride in the park. As it is a real ‘re-ridable’ experience, it encourages our visitors to stay longer on site, and for visitors who don't ride, watching the train run on the big steel and wood structure is still a nice experience. We have been surprised by how many people stay at the entrance of the ride just to watch the reactions of the passengers.”

Designed to appeal to the whole family, children who

measure 1.10 metres can ride Wood Express under the supervision of an adult, and those who measure 1.20 metres can ride it alone. “The challenge for us and for The Gravity Group was to create a thrill ride that was not too extreme, in order to make it a fun experience for the whole family,” says Campion. “The final result is very good - a lot of time our adult riders are more scared than the younger!”
