According to a recent market report published by Technavio, a key factor driving the growth of the amusement park market is the rise in the number of baby boomer visitors. Whilst I can’t quite see how septuagenarians are going to “drive the demand for 4D rides, giant rides, and challenging roller coasters,” our North American editor Paul Ruben would likely disagree – rumour has it that he is in fact an octogenarian, and still riding as many coasters as he can, as often as he can. The news that the global amusement park market is
expected to post a CAGR of over 8% during the 2018- 2022 period, however, is encouraging, and I definitely would not dispute the claim that the Internet of Things is revolutionising operations in amusement parks, especially as regards ticketing and crowd management. The EAS show is fast approaching, and the Park World team is looking forward to heading to Amsterdam to check out – and hopefully test out – the latest in visitor attractions tech. We are at booth 1-928, so please get in touch if you have something our roving reporter Hannah Hart should make sure to see. Nominations for the Park World Excellence Awards
have now closed, and the entrants have handed over to our panel of industry judges to cast their votes for the top projects and parks in the European attractions industry over the past year. Created by Datateam Business Media, the publisher of Park World, the event has categories for operators, suppliers, manufacturers and entertainment specialists from across the continent. Uniquely for this sector, anyone in the industry can nominate a park or a ride. Tickets for the event, taking place on 26th September at the W hotel, are on sale online – you can visit
parkworldexcellenceawards.com to purchase yours.
