What are the advantages, if any, of government ride inspection in addition to ride inspection done by park operators?
Paul Borchardt, Wonderland Park, USA: Fortunately, the state of Texas has a system of inspection that puts the responsibility where it belongs. We get an independent ride inspector that is approved by the state and our insurance carrier. The operator, inspector, and our insurance carrier now all involved and I feel that this puts eyes on the equipment, the operation, and total operation without the bureaucracy of government adding an additional cost to do the same thing without responsibility.
Mogens C. Ramsløv, Tivoli, Denmark: Safety is of the utmost importance in our business. With government safety requirements it is guaranteed that all parks have the same quality standards. When ride inspections are carried out by an organization that is independent of the park operator it is less likely that other considerations than safety will influence the inspection. In Denmark the police is the final approval authority. The approval by the police is carried out in close cooperation with an authorized inspection company.
Yan Girlya, Diggerland USA: There is always an advantage of having a State or Federal official provide announced inspections. This only helps with confirming that rides are safe.
