Aquatica San Antonio’s newest waterslide opens

For those who prefer life in the fast lane, Aquatica San Antonio’s newest waterslide – Taumata Racer – has opened, kicking off spring break in South Texas. A high-speed competitive mat ride, Taumata Racer features six riders racing down a staggeringly steep hill, head first. Positioned in six side-by-side lanes, riders will zoom around a 180º swooping turn, and in-and- out of a tunnel before racing down the 375 foot (114 m) slide and across the finish line in under 10 seconds. Manufactured by WhiteWater West Industries, Taumata Racer is located on the north side of the tropically- themed waterpark.

Named for a famous hill in New Zealand, Taumata is short for the 85-letter Maori word “Taumata¬whakatangihanga¬koauau¬o¬tamatea¬ turi¬pukakapiki¬maunga¬horo¬nuku¬pokai-whenuakitanatahu.” Roughly translated, this means: “The summit where Tamatea, the man with the big knees, the climber of mountains, the land-swallower who traveled about, played his flute to his loved one.”

Branson Adventures

redevelopment plan approved Branson Missouri’s Tax Increment Financing (TIF) Commission has approved the Branson Adventures Redevelopment project. The development will anchor the west end of the Branson Entertainment Corridor, a popular tourism destination, and will deliver modern activities and experiences for tomorrow’s tourism market, including a whitewater rafting adventure, downhill bike and ropes courses, 100,000 square foot indoor water park, and more. At the TIF Commission hearing, the development team revealed the first of several unique themed attractions, National Geographic Ultimate Explorer, an indoor interactive exploration center geared to families with children aged 5-12. The first of these centers has recently opened in Shenyang, China, and the Branson location could be the first in North America. Construction of phase one of the development is estimated to begin in spring 2019 and be completed by spring 2021. Construction costs will total approximately $446 million.
