BRANDS
REWARDING ACTIVITY
Muuvr is looking to reinvent the way brands interact with their athletes. Daniel Blackham sits down with CMO James Vickers to learn more about partnership opportunities
I
n an ever-growing age of digitalisation, businesses are looking for new ways to engage with new consumers – and retain current ones. One company
looking to reinvent that relationship is Muuvr. Muuvr is a new fitness platform that enables athletes to earn rewards from brands by doing more. Available for free on iOS and Android, the Muuvr app analyses users’ fitness activities and rewards them with ‘Muuvs’, which can be redeemed to buy sporting goods and services via a range of reward partners. Users – called ‘Muuvrs’ – can connect the app to their preferred fitness tracking platforms including, Zwift, Apple Fitness and Fitbit, and to a range of devices from smartphones to bike computers and fitness watches, including Google, Garmin and Wahoo. So what motivated the team behind the app to create this unique offering? “I think, like all of the team at Muuvr, I’ve always been inspired by the concept of what physical activity can do for people’s health and wellbeing,” explains James Vickers, CMO at Muuvr.
“Micheal [Hartweg], our CEO, is really inspirational when it

comes to this concept, it’s one of the main reasons I’m excited to join the guys at Muuvr. “Our vision is to create a more active world and unleash the power of community with rewards to motivate people to be more active. What separates us from other sports apps out there, established brands like Strava, Fitbit and My Fitness Pal, is that they have a specialty in the area that they’ve chosen to focus on.” On the face of it, Muuvr may appear the same. However, this is a completely new category. “We’re a sports activity app that rewards you for being active,” says Vickers. “So we take how active you’ve been, and reward you for that.
It’s like air miles for athletes. We don’t reward with discounts, we reward with credits called Muuvs. These can then be spent on real world goods and services in the Muuvr Marketplace. “And the outcome of that is people are motivated to be more active because they’ve got nice new gear so they’re excited to go for a ride or run “There are other elements to the app such as challenges that also motivate people but primarily we are a rewards platform.”
