DISTRIBUTOR

It also features Step Sequence Programming and Integrated Stabilising Units.
It joins the existing family of machinery which includes a Hub Filling Station that automates dropping spokes into hubs, two ISL lacing machines and an additional robot. The Cycle Division expects
this to enhance the production efficiency and quality of the extensive range of almost 200 wheel SKU’s. “Our wheel building operation is increasingly significant to The Cycle Division,” says Ingham. “Again, the demise of those other distributors presents us with a real opportunity. “To meet demand we have recently invested in new up to date machinery and more staff. These investments will enable us to almost double our previous capacity.”
The current state-of-play in the market is well-known with regards to new bike sales, but the spine of so many sustainable retailers remains the workshop. Due to the nature of The Cycle Divisions portfolio, Ingham has witnessed a similar trend. “Most dealers seemed to have a tough time towards the end of 2023 but the new year has started on a positive note,” he says. “Although sales of new bikes are poor, most workshops are quite busy and our observations are that there is

definitely a desire to ride bikes – either for leisure or commuting so we are looking forward to a busy season.”
Future plans
With an ample supply of workshop staples and a burgeoning wheel building segment, The Cycle Division looks set for a busy 2024 – and there is more to come. “The next 12 months will see The Cycle Division introduce a couple of new brands,” explains Ingham. “We won’t mention any names at this stage but we hope these new lines will fill some gaps after [the] demise of some important distributors last year. “[As well as the] introduction of the new product lines already mentioned, upcoming plans are new wheels to keep our range up to
date, and to cement The Cycle Division’s position in the marketplace by offering those all important workshop solutions.” As well as keeping clients well-served, plans are afoot to open the doors to The Cycle Division HQ for dealers. “We are hopeful that in the spring we can have a ‘dealer
day’,” says Ingham “An opportunity for dealers to visit TCD HQ, talk to representatives from principal brands, take a tour of the estate and enjoy some proper Yorkshire hospitality.”
