he Cycle Division has been a firm-favourite of the IBD for nearly quarter of a century. This is largely thanks to its diverse portfolio


of products and renowned customer service which has seen it win the BikeBiz P&A Distributor of the Year Award in recent times. Founded in 2001, the Huddersfield-based distributor


stocks a range of brands including Sturmey Archer/ SunRace, Elvedes, RavX, Finesse, Schwalbe, Weldtite, Oxford and its own generic brand D2O. There’s no doubt that distributor market in the UK has changed significantly in the last 12 months. Moore Large, 2Pure and Hotlines entered administration, Fli Distribution ceased trading, and Raleigh took the decision to exit P&A.


Ahead of the traditional cycling season, BikeBiz managed to catch up with Martin Ingham, co-founder and director of The Cycle Division, to hear how business has been in recent months and preview what’s to come. “The past 12 months have been challenging but interesting,” explains Ingham.

“We started the year like many others with too much


stock, but fortunately that stock is useful workshop stuff that is selling through.


“The big challenge for us was moving our wheel building


factory from Barton-on-Humber to the main Huddersfield site.” To support the move, The Cycle Division has invested in its wheel building equipment with the delivery of a new Holland Mechanics’ 3rd Gen Robot SG truing machine. This robot is designed for “agile and lean production where flexibility is a must”.
