MICROMOBILITY
clunky, unattractive modifications that compromised the bike’s original design. This dilemma sparked a revolutionary idea: what if we could create a system that could transform any bike into a high-performance e-bike, without permanent alterations or compromise to your existing bike?”
And so they did, and thus Skarper was born. It works by “enhancing” your bike rather than converting it, according to the brand. In fact, there’s no hub or mid-drive motor alteration in sight. Instead, it uses patented DiskDrive technology which integrates a gearbox and latching mechanism together with a disc brake rotor. It offers 250W of continuous power, and up to a claimed 50km of range from one charge.
What about the plans for retailers and distributors? “At Skarper, we believe in the power of partnership,” continued Meirovich. “Our retail strategy is designed to create a win-win situation for our customers, our retail partners, and our brand. We’re taking a phased approach, starting with direct-to-consumer (D2C) while in parallel building a robust retail network.”
So while the initial sales were through a D2C approach, which has helped Skarper to identify “early adopters” and develop a group of brand ambassadors, brick and motor is still on their radar. “Our goal goes beyond simply to stock shelves; we aim to drive foot traffic and create buzz for our retail partners. With Skarper in stock, a bicycle shop can supply any standard bike they offer as an e-bike just by having Skarper on the shelf. Five Skarpers in stock? The next five customers can purchase any of your bicycle stock as an e-bike too! regardless of bicycle brand, model or style.” The brand also has plans to develop a nationwide support network with independent bike shops and mobile mechanics, as well as demo experiences and flexible partnership models. And further into the future? Expect things like bike brand
partnerships, a mobile demo fleet and experience centres throughout “key cycling hubs.” “As we grow, we’re committed to evolving our strategy in partnership with our retail network. Our approach is designed to grow with us, ensuring that as Skarper evolves, our retail presence evolves with it. “If you’re a retailer interested in being part of this journey, we’d love to hear from you. Together, we can transform the cycling retail landscape and bring this game-changing technology to cyclists everywhere. Join us. Accelerate the future of cycling.”
Support network When it comes to warranty and repairs, the brand is offering a comprehensive two-year warranty on their product, covering mechanical issues and manufacturing defects. For retailers or workshops that encounter any issues with a Skarper device, the brand has set up a “variety of ways to access our expert support”, including an online portal, live chat, email support, and a WhatsApp hotline. “We’re actively building a network of Authorised Skarper Installers by partnering with trusted, high-quality independent bike shops and mobile mechanics. These shops will serve as Official Skarper Service Centres, trained to handle most repairs and warranty claims. “Skarper’s click-on, click-off design makes it simple - since the unit can be easily clicked off the bike, there’s minimal downtime for the rider. If a problem arises with the Skarper unit itself, it can be detached and sent to our national repair centre in London. Meanwhile, the rider can still use their bike as normal, ensuring an exceptional seamless service experience for customers.” For Skarper installers and service centres, the devices can be remotely diagnosed rather than needing to be sent off to identify any issues. “Our ultimate goal is to be a driving force in the global
shift towards micro-mobility; the eBike drive technology of choice for cyclists. We envision a future where Skarper- equipped bikes are a common sight on city streets, country lanes, and beyond. By giving riders the flexibility and choice to upgrade their bike without compromising its core essence, we’re promoting a paradigm shift in how people move.
“Whether it’s a sweat-free commute, flattening hills,
or extending range, Skarper is about redefining what’s possible on two wheels. For retailers, Skarper represents a unique opportunity to be part of this vision. “With our support network, multi-channel assistance, and the growing demand for e-bike solutions, Skarper offers a product that excites customers and simultaneously builds loyalty and repeat business for the shops that support them. Together, we’re transforming cycling for a new era of personal mobility.”
