SEBO’s Justin Binks, Director, speaks to Will McGill about the history of the brand, its exciting new launches and the challenges of operating a business in today’s environment.
W
hen engineers Klaus Stein and Heinz Kaulig gave up their secure positions with career prospects over 45 years ago to set up a vacuum cleaner
factory, they were met with scepticism. Few people believed in the project, aside from their wives, Heide and Edith. They were up against established manufacturers and the time for setting up new production facilities in Germany seemed to be over.
It was only when their intentions became more serious, reinforced with decades of experience in the industry, that some entrepreneurial business people took notice and helped to pave the way.
Recognising the potential, the trademark SEBO, which is short for ”SEmigewerbliche BOdenpflege” (semi-commercial floor care), was created.
Over the years the company has celebrated many milestones: from producing vacuum cleaner no.100 back in 1978, two years later it had to move to a larger location which enabled the brand to extend its product range and this coincided with the 2500th vacuum being created. Today, SEBO vacuum cleaners are at home on the red carpet and on the gleaming parquet floor. They are used in the White House in Washington, in Buckingham Palace in London, in the German Budestag in Berlin and in leading hotels around the world, from Tokyo, Cape Town and Paris to Las Vegas and Singapore.
Innovative engineering Justin Binks, one of Sebo’s Directors, explains how the company has found 2025: “Obviously 2025 is only half way through, so you would

really have to ask me next year! But with the introduction of our new cordless Balance A1 machine, things are very exciting for us at the moment.
“Launching the Balance A1 range of
cordless machines this year has been very exciting. Not only does this machine feature a highly effective multi-cyclone system, but in classic SEBO style the unit containing the mini cyclones can be completely removed, giving full access for cleaning.”
The new Sebo Balance A1 heralds a new era for the company. The cordless battery-powered vacuum cleaner is designed for all floors and surfaces, combines decades of experience with state-of-the-art technology.
Optimised by German engineering, the Balance A1 delivers an overall well-balanced package. Ergonomic, lightweight, and versatile, with powerful motors, a long battery life, innovative cyclone technology, and anti-hair wrap, means it picks up effortlessly on carpets, hard floors, and surfaces.
