Well, here goes… W
ell, here goes…
ell… where do I begin? After two fantastic years working alongside Jack Cheesman as Assistant Editor, I’m
incredibly proud to be stepping into the role of Editor here at ERT. First off, a huge thank you to Matt for steering the ship so smoothly over the past couple of issues—you did a brilliant job. But most importantly, I want to take a moment to thank Jack. For the past six years, he’s poured so much time, energy, and care into making ERT what it is today. It’s been a real privilege learning from him. Thanks, Jack.
Over the past two years, I’ve been lucky enough to attend some fantastic industry shows, but now I’m eager to get out even more. I want to hear your stories, the real voices from retailers and manufacturers. This industry is full of passion and creativity, so please get in touch.
So… a little bit about me. I’m someone who loves to travel, my most recent trip was to Japan,
and in my opinion, is hands down the best country in the world (any excuse to talk about it is a good one—hence the photo above!). The electronics stores there are on a completely different level. Take Bic Camera, for example, it’s usually six or seven stories high, and you just lose yourself wandering between the aisles.
The last few years have been tough for everyone in the industry; uncertainty, challenges, and constant change have been the norm. But if there’s one thing I’ve learned, it’s that things can only get better. I’m really looking forward to getting out and about more, visiting retailers, hearing your stories firsthand, and sharing those real experiences in the magazine. There’s something irreplaceable about those face-to-face conversations that bring the industry to life, and I can’t wait to bring that energy to these pages.
Speaking of coming together, the ERT Awards voting is now open, and tickets are on sale! It’s
not just an opportunity to celebrate outstanding people and businesses, it’s a chance for the whole industry to connect, share stories, and learn from each other. I’m really looking forward to seeing the brilliant talent and innovation you choose to honour this year.
In this issue, you’ll find a fascinating interview with SEBO, plus write-ups from the Sirius and Clarity Conferences, two events packed with honest conversations about retail today and what’s coming next. We also take a deep dive into premium SDA and MDA categories, highlighting exciting opportunities. Thanks for reading. Whether you’re at your desk, on the shop floor, or somewhere in between, I hope to meet more of you soon. Enjoy the issue.
