Celebrate god times… B
efore we get into celebration mode, let’s pause to talk about the curious current state of the electrical retail market in the UK. While consumer spending has been cautious of
late, the sector still recorded a modest 3.7 per cent year on year growth - a sign of stability in uncertain times, perhaps. There are still some exciting drivers of growth including the continued rise of smart technology, and growing demand for connected living solutions.
That said, market behaviour is shifting in
interesting ways. A growing number of people, nearly a third of consumers*, are planning to purchase pre-owned refurbished electricals in the next 12 months. Hopefully those selling will buy new! And this trend isn’t just for budget-conscious shoppers; it’s spanning all income levels. Shoppers are becoming more value-conscious, selective, and driven by both price and purpose. In this changing landscape, it’s more important than ever for retailers to clearly communicate what makes their products worth investing in. So, here’s the challenge - and the opportunity! In a market that’s fairly flat, where competition is constant and consumer expectations are shifting, how do you stand out? Differentiation is more important than ever, and it’s essential to address how you connect with your customers, encourage your team, and remind your community what makes your business special. That’s where celebrating past successes, featuring amazing projects, or important milestones comes in.
At AWE, we’re marking our 90th anniversary this year, and we’re not just throwing a party, but using the moment to reflect and revive our story. Company milestones are more than just a date on the calendar; they reflect the hard work, adaptability, and commitment that have shaped the business over time.
Customer Engagement: Sharing your journey with customers invites them to be part of your story. Marking big moments through special promotions, campaigns, or events can create connection between you and new and existing customers, drive interest, and build excitement around your products and services. Reflecting on Progress: Pausing to look back helps you plan for what’s next. It’s important that businesses take the time to assess their growth, learn from past experiences, and set new goals for the future. This reflection is also vital for continuous improvement and staying ahead in a competitive market.
Building Community: Recognising collective achievements brings people together. Not only does this strengthen your internal culture, but also builds meaningful relationships with suppliers, customers, and the wider network that supports your business.
Here are a few powerful reasons why electrical
retailers in today’s market should acknowledge their achievements, big or small, and how they can deliver real impact:
Recognition and Motivation: Taking time to
recognise progress, whether it’s a standout year, team achievement, or business anniversary, can be a powerful morale boost. When employees, partners, and stakeholders feel seen and appreciated, it builds a sense of pride and momentum that carries forward into future success. Brand Strengthening: Moments of success
offer the perfect chance to remind the audience what your company stands for. By highlighting your values, consistency, and commitment to customers, you reinforce trust and loyalty, which is essential for long-term growth.
Marketing Opportunities: Milestones and celebrations naturally create storytelling moments. They offer fresh content for social media, PR, newsletters, and more - all rooted in authenticity and experience to help your business stand out in a crowded market. Encouraging Innovation: Acknowledging
progress can spark fresh thinking. It creates space to imagine what’s possible next, encouraging teams to be creative and push new ideas that keep the business moving forward. AWE’s 90 Years: Our 90th anniversary celebrations at AWE aim to highlight a journey of resilience, adaptability, and unwavering commitment to excellence. It’s not just a celebration of the past, but a statement of our objectives for the future: to keep growing, evolving, and delivering the best for our customers. So, there you have it! Celebrating business milestones are a powerful way to recognise achievements, engage customers, reflect on progress, build community, create marketing opportunities, and spark innovation.
